Spanish insurgents pushed a half mile closer to Bilbao amid heavy artillery and air bombardment. They entrenched along a five mile ridge west of the Basque capital and moved to seize the valley towns of Lezama and Larrabezua, aiming for a final breakthrough in the two month siege.
Washington reports a $194,328,000 appropriation for flood control and river and harbor improvements starts through Congress. The House Appropriations Committee routes funds to the War Department for Mississippi and Ohio valley projects and other non military works. Total War Department funding would reach $610,079,894 for the next fiscal year, with $181,416,300 for Army engineers includes $30,000,000 for 1936 act projects and $22,500,000 for lower Mississippi works. The panel notes the $30,000,000 item is inadequate given recent Ohio river rampages. Part of reductions hit the Paul V. McNutt entertainment fund and aides salaries. Gooch Harris, a Kellys ville gas station proprietor, shot and killed Frank Mazie of Pennsylvania after Mazie allegedly refused to leave and forced entry. Harris surrendered at Princeton, with Sheriff Crumpecker and prosecutors opening an investigation.
