Safewright files second damages suit against Daily Telegraph

Mrs. Libby Safewright former Tazewell County Animal Shelter manager sues Daily Telegraph Printing Co editor Hugh Ike Shott Jr executive editor Richard Wesley and staff writer Karen Kaplan in Tazewell County Circuit Court alleging articles in 1982 led to her 1983 dismissal. She seeks 50 000 compensatory and 50 000 punitive damages from each defendant. Earlier in December 1982 she filed another suit totaling 55 000 which was dismissed for improper filing. Represented by William B. Talty.

Prominent Va Side Doctor Dies at 72 in Bluefield

Dr. Sam Milchin a Bluefield area physician died at his home at 304 Union St age 72 of natural causes. He served as past president of Congregation Ahavath Sholom and B'nai B'rith and was active in Mercer County Medical Association and American Medical Association. Pay Raise For Giles Teachers In Budget

Giles County School Board approves an 8.4 million Fiscal Year 83-84 budget with a 6 percent across the board pay raise for employees, marking the fourth consecutive raise. Director Hired For Crafts Center At Bluefield

The Bluefield Area Arts and Crafts Center hires Mike Meador of Madison as director effective July 1 with a $14,000 salary split evenly between the center and state funds. Meador, son of Margaret Meador, brings applicable experience. The board also commends Mercer County School Superintendent John Hughes for his outstanding service.
