Rumania Drops Last Vestige of Demagogy
Bucharest May Q1 4 Rumania’s last piece of democratic political machinery will be discarded tomorrow in the election of a corporate parliament modeled on Italian Fascist lines. Two million voters face lists from Romania’s only party, the front of national rebirth created by King Carol II to rule unopposed. Campaigning is stifled and the outcome is foregone, as deputies are chosen by guilds according to employment, enabling Carol to complete the new fascist state. Carol admires Fascism, though not all in Italy’s Mussolini share the view.
