London reports Britain's plan to provide a 243 million dollar credit fund to Allies for arms and mobilization tests. Prime Minister Chamberlain may outline Britain's stance on Danzig in Parliament. A new British French Russian mutual assistance pact draft was prepared for Moscow envoy Sir William Leeds.
Cleveland July 6 sheriff and detectives grilled a bricklayer linked to torso murder cases dating back to September 1935. He admitted knowing Mrs Florence Polillo who was found decapitated in January 1936, making her the third identified victim among twelve.
Beckley West Virginia July 6 Twenty year old Jack Phillips held for grand jury on murder charge after a boat overturned on New River drowning Alonzo Carter Witnesses Clyde Gibson and Mrs Glenna Littlejohn testified Phillips swam from shore overturned the boat and towed the craft while Elbert Phillips claimed Carter caused the capsize and both tried to recover their companion.
Pickets marched at five General Motors plants closed by a strike affecting about 3,700 tool and die makers engineers and maintenance men members of the CIO United Automobile Workers. Walter Reuther hailed the walkout as 100 percent effective while UAW and GM worked toward a conference with labor conciliator James P. Dewey to resolve recognition issues and end the disruption.
Charleston officials report the Public Service Commission will decide after hearings on Blue Ribbon’s bid to operate the Saner Deepwater and Oak Hills corridors along U. S. Route 61. The commission took the matter under advisement following the session.

Marvin Skeeter Douthat, his return to Bluefield after being named the winner of a $1000 Granada theater jackpot, refused the prize saying the win felt unfair and withdrew the money. The Roanoke College senior, known as one of the Five Smart Boys, cited conscience and uncertainty about the drawing.
