15 Die as Navy Jet Crashes Into Miramar Hangar
A crippled F8 Crusader crashed into a Miramar hangar, igniting flames that rose 150 feet as two F4 Phantoms were struck. At least 15 sailors were killed and about 20 injured among roughly 60 people inside the hangar. Pilot Lt. Cyrus M. Riddell ejected safely after the malfunction. An inquiry was ordered.
