Juveniles charged after Matoaka school bus fire

Two Mercer County juveniles, a 10 year old Matoaka boy and a 14 year old Hiawatha youth, face arson and theft charges after a Friday night fire at Matoaka Elementary School. Damage is near 500000 dollars. The school will stay closed for three weeks with classes resuming January 5.

Fire destroys War buildings

A morning blaze in War destroyed two downtown structures the Curtain Shop and the Pizza Shop on Main Street and heavily damaged an apartment building. A nearby transformer exploded before the fire, which West Virginia Fire Marshal investigators will probe. about 35 firefighters battled the flames.
