Fortheming Christmas Festival at Ramsey Auditorium

Interest centers on a Christmas festival to be staged by school children at Ramsey auditorium Thursday at 2 30 in the afternoon and Friday at 8 in the evening, with about 1 000 participants. Miss Elizabeth Shelton will serve as general director. The junior choirs of Blind Street Methodist and First Presbyterian churches will sing descants to three carols, and Beaver High school's A Cappella choir will perform special numbers.

Star Of Bethlehem Cantata at Bland Street Church

Flaxington Harker presents The Star of Bethlehem at Bland Street Methodist Church next Sunday at 7 30 p m. A chorus of about thirty five voices and an orchestra of twelve will perform under James Elmer Brown. The cantata offers melody rhythm and pleasing harmony.

Trinity League Presents Inspiring Christmas Service

At Trinity Epworth League meeting on Sunday evening Miss Josephine Vaughan led an uplifting program. Irene Weaver read Luke 27 14 scripture. Hymns included Angels From the Realms of Glory Come All Ye Faithful Silent Night and A Song In the A. Mrs W E White assisted. Lucille Saunders announced December 30 Christmas dinner at Trinity church sponsored by the league.

Fraternity Holds Fourth Annual Christmas Dinner Dance

Kappa Omicron Alpha of Bluefield College hosted its fourth annual Christmas dinner dance at the West Virginian hotel ballroom. The program featured Dr Edwin C Wade, Jay Marshall, and Prof William Irvine Marable along with a musical lineup from Ayers school of dancing. Toastmaster Van B Keyes presented a token to Marable as appreciation for his leadership. Dancing continued with lilting swing music until 11 30.

Busy Program Marks Harry PTA Meet

The Harry PTA held its monthly meeting at the school with large attendance including visitors. The program featured songs by the Singing Mothers and piano by Joyce Koch, a talk on Parent Education by Mrs. Edward Frazee, and plans to fill baskets for needy families and a December 16 program with two one act plays under the program committee.

Club Laissez-Faire Holds Regular Meet

Club Laissez-Faire met at Hugh Gilpin's Jefferson Street home to discuss business and review the December 4 dance sponsor, one of the season’s most successful affairs. The meeting featured games, dancing, and refreshments with Tommy Pearson and Miss Betty Carey assisting. visitors James Hicks and Van B. Keys of Bluefield College attended. The next meeting is December 18 at Joe Bowman’s Highland Avenue home.

The Way of a Singing Heart at Trinity Methodist

Sum day morning program by Trinity Methodist Young People department featured a play The Way of a Singing Heart with cast including Binger Mrs John Powell Oreda Neel Billy Fowlkes Francis Crosby Bessie Trent Spirit of Worship Josephine Vaughan led by Selena Crews who read Psalms followed by prayer by Mrs Kyle Bruce Holy Holy Holy sung by the department Bill Birchfield announced dinner for the poor and Oreda Neel noted a Christmas pageant at Trinity church. The gathering closed with benediction.

Mrs Gates Visits White Shrine Ceremony in Bluefield

Mrs Gates of Phlauston attends the Macedonia Shrine annual ceremonial at the Masonic temple in Bluefield with Mrs Beamer presiding. A banquet honors Mrs Gates and candidates, followed by a district meeting and degree work. The 44th supreme shrine session is slated for Toronto May 24 to 26 with Dionne Quintuplets visit promised.

The January Beaver High School senior class stages Lets Get Rich at the Beaver auditorium. Directed by Miss Angela Craft, the merry mad cap comedy follows two old friends who clash yet cannot part, delivering bright humor with a touch of drama.

Legion Auxiliary Yuletide Party Friday at Appalachian hall

The American Legion auxiliary led by president Mrs A 8 Booker will host a Christmas party Friday at 8 PM in Appalachian hall. A Christmas tree will be featured and Santa Claus is expected to attend. Members should bring 10 cent gifts, attractively wrapped, to be distributed during the evening.

Beaver A Cappella Choir Delivers Fine Sunday Program

Members of Beaver A Cappella choir under director Miss Elizabeth Shelton presented a musical program Sunday evening at Bland Street Methodist Church. A free will offering benefited the choir treasury. Next Saturday at 11 45 the group will broadcast on WHIS after a past Saturday program of Negro spirituals. The singers have received invitations to appear in Welch and Narrows, Virginia.

Visitors Inspect School Project at Whitethorn

Mrs H C Hambrick president of Harry P T A and Miss Vernie Geordon first and second grade teacher, visited Whitethorn school on suggestion of Brooks Hardy assistant county superintendent for a project inspection. Pupils built miniature houses showing skill and ingenuity. The note adds a remark about women on stage prior to the 18th century.

Weather delays many local announcements tonight

Multiple groups in Bluefield postponed meetings and events due to bad weather. Father’s Night program, Wade PTA gathering, and church and club sessions were rescheduled. Some events moved to January 10, 1950, with others still planned at 4 6 8 3 times and venues like Moose hall Jimmie's restaurant and YWCA quarters.

Sol C. O Briant aged 60, longtime Woodmen of the World state manager for 16 years, died of pneumonia in Huntington W Va on December 13. He retired in 1934 due to failing health.

Meeting of Grace Epworth League

The Epworth league of Grace Methodist church met Thursday evening at the church with Herman Siple as reader. "In the Garden of Prayer" opened the service, followed by prayer led by William Albright. W. C. Forlines sang a solo. Alice Siple led the Scripture lesson and the song "Sweet Hour of Prayer." Pastor J. T. Browning gave a forceful talk, and the meeting closed with announcements, collections, and benediction.

Mr and Mrs Hale of 200 Alder Street welcomed a daughter Nancy Ellotse born December 12 weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces. Formerly Louise Britten she becomes Mrs R R Renfro. In Kingsport Tennessee Britthfield natives Mr and Mrs Renfro also welcomed a daughter Sharon Lee at St Luke's Hospital. Before marriage Margaret Hyatt was the mother. The Renfro couple have two other children a son Booby and a daughter Gail.
