Tazewell Board Considers Additions to Four Area Schools

Tazewell County Board of Education discussed potential additions to Dudley Primary Bluefield Richlands and Graham High Schools during its December meeting in Tazewell. No final decision. Man Sustains Gun Wound in Hunting Accident

Velmer Mitchem age 40 of Wilcoe McDowell County was treated at Grace Hospital Welch for a shotgun wound to neck and back from a hunting accident. Walter Campbell 62 Capels slipped and fired accidentally while rabbit hunting along Indian Creek Wyoming County. No charges filed. Trooper A. K. Dozier led the McDowell County portion of the investigation.

Three Hurt In Bluefield Collision Near Mooney’s Shop

Mae Bolton 51 of Bluefield, Virginia Pennington, and Eula Mathena were injured in a two vehicle crash near a novelty shop by Mooney’s. Bolton was not hurt. Pennington remained unconscious at Bluefield Sanitarium. Mathena suffered facial lacerations a broken nose and a shoulder injury. Ethel Mae Bolton was charged with failure to yield right of way.

Sleepy Driver Goes Over Embankment

Danie Lee Reed a 27 year old Princeton man told state police he fell asleep at the wheel causing a Princeton Athens Road truck to strike a guard rail and plunge over an embankment. Damages estimated at 1000 dollars and Reed suffered minor injuries not requiring hospitalization. Trooper Allen Stanley investigated with no charges filed.

Johnny Johnson, 57, of Bedford Street Bluefield, released on $500 bond. Preliminary hearing rescheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. before Justice of the Peace Charles Calfee. Huntington Firemen Overcome By Fumes

Ten Huntington firemen were hospitalized after inhaling chemical fumes from a dust collector fire at the Holland Suco Color Co. The blaze caused no damage and the cause is believed to be spontaneous combustion of dust. company officials did not reveal the chemicals involved.
