Pearl Harbor survivor recalls attack and vow to return
Yeoman Darrell Conner, 23, aboard the USS California on December 7 1941, watched a Japanese plane drop a torpedo and a 500 pound bomb that sank the ship. Now 92, he will join about 120 fellow survivors at Pearl Harbor for a remembrance ceremony and will lay a wreath representing the California. Conner recalls raising the flag with a seaman to boost morale as ships burned and Marines fought back. He praises the new 56 million dollar Pearl Harbor visitor center and stresses vigilance and readiness against those who would threaten the United States.
