Capital High principal ends pledge and anthem for day
Kanawha County Capital High School principal Clinton Giles canceled the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem for a day after students claimed they were being forced to recite. He said the move followed complaints and that the activities would resume the next day with a return to normal.

Tazewell board OKs auction of unclaimed items and two surplus cars
The Tazewell County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance letting the sheriff auction unclaimed items from investigations and surplus two vehicles a 2004 Dodge Intrepid and a 1998 Ford Taurus. The board also approved Burke's Garden Telephone franchise for cable service and relocated voting precincts for Falls Mills. Residents spoke on road safety and the National Heritage Area proposal, with some opposing the latter.
