Three fire departments battle Princeton garage blaze
Three fire departments responded to a fire in a wooden detached garage on 7th Street in Princeton. The blaze damaged two vehicles including a Jaguar, snapped power lines and telephone wires, and scorched a car across the street. No one was inside. investigators seek the cause.

Mercer man sentenced in Bluefield Pill Initiative case
Benjamin Jamalle Lane 35 of Montcalm received three years and one month in federal prison for distribution of 480 oxycodone 30 milligram pills during a four month period ending June 2011. He pled guilty to distributing oxycodone to a cooperating informant on February 29 2012 and to confidential informants on March 5 and March 12 2012 in the Montcalm area. The case is part of the Bluefield Pill Initiative involving multiple agencies to curb prescription drug trafficking across Mercer and nearby counties.

Brush fire in Mercer County traced to children
State forester said a November brush fire along Ada Road and near Green Valley in Mercer County was accidentally set by children. Fire crews kept flames from reaching homes, with no property damage reported. Forester Chris White noted 42 fall fires in Mercer and McDowell counties, about 2,400 acres burned, and a $2,500 arson reward offered.

Donations tallied Tuesday pushed the Community Christmas Tree fund past $19,000 toward a $30,000 goal with 16 days remaining before the Little Jimmie party.
