Bluefield merchants expect a record turnout for Dollar Day with out-of-town shoppers. Special parking privileges will be available to visitors who display a clipping from today’s Daily Telegraph on their windshields, signaling access to restricted areas.
Mercer County Bar association contributed to the program with several vocal solos by Mrs Ruth Bodell Fox, accompanied by James Elmer Brown. Short talks were delivered by George Richardson Jr J M Senders Jr and Mrs Harriet French for the audience in attendance.
At Burgos today the Spanish rebel Junta accused France of shipping contraband aid to the Madrid government and charged Ambassador Herbette with acting as an agent for the Reds via the Paris consulate. A foreign office spokesman in Paris said the accusations seemed an attack on France and noted Herbette spends most of his time in France, crossing the border only to assist French citizens.
Mrs H C Williams mother of Mrs Roy Dr Callaway of Mount View Avenue died at her Elizabeth Town Kentucky home at 4 am after a battle with pneumonia She was 72 and survived by her husband and daughter Funeral will be held at Elizabeth Town this afternoon at 4 o'clock Mr Callaway traveled there after her illness and her son Gantre Williams had preceded her in death
A noon Saturday luncheon at the West Virginian Hotel will honor Ray Evans, named the state's safest auto driver, before his departure for New York to participate in a national safety program. Gov. H G Kump and numerous state and local officials and club leaders are invited. Evans will receive AAA touring materials, and a motorcade from Bluefield to the Virginia line will precede his trip to New York City.
