Tragic Death by Own Hand of Miss Gladys Bray

Miss Gladys Bray eldest daughter of C D Bray of Coopers committed suicide with a 32 caliber pistol at Elkins last Friday morning. She had suffered illness for about a year and grew despondent, firing the shot while alone before a mirror. The wound proved fatal instantly and the body was moved to Harrisonburg Virginia for burial. Bray was loved in the community and her death is attributed to illness rather than foul play.

Norfolk and Western Inspector Stricken Then Reported Dead

The Norfolk and Westerns George Holmes of Roanoke was reported dead in Vivian but later found alive in critical condition after a paralysis stroke. He was unconscious when found in his car and taken to a hotel for care with no speech since the incident and an outcome still uncertain.

Death of William Werter Reese in Bluefield

William Werter Reese aged eighteen years and ten months died of heart failure after a brief typhoid illness at his brother in law Elonzo Bonds East End home. He was a member of First Baptist church and cherished for his kindness. Funeral services were held at the house with Rev. W. A. Pearson officiating. He is survived by his parents three brothers and eight sisters, with interment to follow in Bedford at Morgan's church cemetery.

Chief of Police Burnett arrested W. H. Barton in Christiansburg Virginia for stealing a $9.87 check drawn by Walter Graham and forged in favor of Lloyd Blanknship. Barton was jailed in Bluefield and faces a preliminary hearing today.

The Bluefield real estate advocate Captain D B Baldwin marked his 70th anniversary yesterday. Despite snowy hair he remains active and influential, a Civil War veteran who has boosted Bluefield as a commercial hub and aided the needy while watching city interests.

Mysterious Couple Traced to This City

A well dressed couple arrived in Bluefield ten days ago to board at a West End house with two large trunks. Two men, one with a pistol, demanded $800 from the woman, then left. The couple vanished after the incident, leaving trunks and belongings behind. they claimed to be from Kenova. The man who traced them here is thought to be the husband.

At Davis Creek near Salt Rock large crowds travel by horse, wagon, or on foot to see a woman dancer who performs what observers call the holy dance. Special Officer Stabbed as Strikers Block Mines in Hazleton

In Hazleton Pennsylvania on August 25 a mob of three thousand strikers halted resumption at Lehigh colliery and a second mob of five hundred went to Cranberry Colliery to block opening. Special Officer Schenck was seriously stabbed trying to save his son from the mob.
