In Pocahontas on August 20 1907 C A Howard Jr a store owner and fire chief shot a burglar identified as John Williams to save his life. The coroner and jury ruled the death was in self defense and he was acquitted of felonious killing. The burglar carried eleven watches eleven pistols and had entered Miller's store.
