Mrs Lula Christian Rites Planned at Ballard Church

Mrs Lula Christian 68 of Red Sulphur Springs died Monday at Hin ton hospital after several weeks hospitalization. She lived in Summers and Monroe counties and is survived by son Daisy W. Christian of Ridge Creek and brothers John A. Mann and Rufus Mann. Her funeral, at Ballard church, will be conducted at 2 30 by Rev L D Candler with burial to follow.

Hallanan Sees Uncertainty Slowing Tidelands Oil Output

Washington reports oil industry leaders say ownership disputes over marginal sea lands curb offshore drilling. Walter S. Hallanan of Plymouth Oil Co. told the Senate Interior Committee that state federal contention has slashed Gulf operations from 40 crews to four and reduced rigs from 23 to 14, threatening a full halt without clarification.

Fire damages N and W camp car in Hemphill

In Welch West Virginia on August 15 a Norfolk and Western Railway camp car was nearly destroyed by fire in the Slick Rock area of Hemphill. Fire Chief H B Hartinger said kerosene used to start a stove caused the blaze. A second car holding gasoline was saved after firefighters extinguished the fire. No injuries reported.

Welch Man Fined For Illegal Liquor Sales

Welch W Va August 15 Howard Clayton arrested during a raid on the Vets club in Woodmont was fined 200 dollars plus costs in city police court. Clayton got 100 dollars plus costs for illegal liquor sales and 100 dollars plus costs for operating gambling slot machines. Officers said the club had no beer or cigarette license. Disposition of seized liquor and machines was not announced.
