Senator Norris holds a slight edge in Nebraska as five states vote. Bankhead maintains district advantage in Alabama. Gore leads in Oklahoma run-off, with Robinson holding a strong four to one lead over his opponent.
First comprehensive returns indicate Senator George W. Norris leads in Nebraska Republican renomination against William M. Stebbins. Senator Robinson holds a strong Democratic edge in Arkansas. Ohio Democrats report gains for senate and governor. Bulkley leads in Cleveland five cornered senate race. George White leads Young for governor with Anti-Saloon League support. Alabama sees Bankhead ahead for Democratic senate nomination while Heflin runs as independent. Oklahoma runoffs favor Gore for senate and Murray for governor.
Early returns from 159 of 2,030 precincts list Norris with 9,873 votes, Stebbins 7,119, and Aaron Read 405 in the Republican Senate contest. Democratic governor candidate Charles W. Bryan leads Anton Jensen by 1,577 to 355 from 38 precincts. In the GOP gubernatorial race Weaver has 3,071 votes to Palmer 1,123 in 43 precincts.
Warden A C Scroggins spoke to the West Virginia state board of control on the prison finances. He reported 750 inmates and 5 workers idle after Gordon East Coast Shirt Co surrendered its contract. The board plans a September 1 decision on the Gordon plant, which it took over August 1. The drought cut the prison farm crop value by 20000 dollars, forcing more purchase of food. Morale was described as excellent and health precautions emphasized. Two contractors remain, employing about 450 men: Kleeson for pants and Bardell for whips and brooms. At year end 2378 inmates were confined, up from 850 a decade ago, with several hundred in toad camps.
Baltimore August 12 British freighter Mistley Hall arriving from Trinidad and Rio Janeiro found seventeen stowaways in a ballast tank after they escaped quarantine. Inspectors noted the crew had no shortage of food and several men were freshly shaved. Communication with the outside was through the manhole as aid from customs men was deemed obvious.

Morgantown August 12 Dr W W Stonestreet a local physician and George C Phillips were arrested by Sheriff W J Mays and state troopers on three warrants for obtaining money under false pretenses They organized a Masonic lodge in Grafton and collected 56 50 from Howe Knotts and Dorsey Shroyer and 21 60 from William Grimes all of Grafton After learning the lodge wasn t recognized they faced charges and were jailed in Taylor county awaiting hearings
Charleston West Virginia August 12 Governor Conley sold five million dollars in state road bonds to the Charleston National Bank A bid of four and a half percent interest applied to one million two hundred sixty five thousand dollars while four percent applied to three million seven hundred eighty five thousand nine dollars The premium for the sale was two hundred dollars The bids were opened in the governor s office and confirmed by telephone from Washington
Detectives suspect Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kern were lured from a Wabash train at Defiance Ohio by glib gangsters posing as well wishers. They carried a $70 000 bank draft and vanished after leaving in an automobile, with Toledo police alerted to protect them.
Toledo police locate a first clue in the abduction case of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kern of St. Louis. The couple checked into the Secor Hotel on Friday morning and checked out the same afternoon. No trace of them has been found.

James Crawford 22 died from wounds after a shooting at the Midway store Bluefield avenue early Sunday. He did not name companion James Robey, who is in custody. H C Baugh faces a 5000 dollar bond and preliminary hearing tonight with Robey also to be heard. Crawford’s funeral is planned for Thursday afternoon at his sister’s home.

Paul Montgomery, 24, of Murphysboro Illinois, the fliers held in the Providence Kentucky mining property bombing, bought an orange and black Barling NB-3 monoplane from the Nicholas Beazley Aircraft Co last January. The aircraft bore federal license number 508 M.
In Providence Kentucky Webster County reports no disorder as deputies head to Murphysboro Illinois for Paul Montgomery a waiter suspected in yesterday’s mine property bombing. Sheriff Overby seeks Illinois extradition and immediate trial is planned upon Montgomery's return. observers point to Montgomerys orange monoplane as the bomber. No injuries or property damage occurred despite five bombs detonating amid labor unrest in the coal field.
It was revealed late today that a bomb that failed to explode fell on the roof of a miner's home in Providence Kentucky. The family was in the house at the time.
Judge George L. Dillard of Mercer county criminal court was nominated by both Democratic and Republican judicial conventions in Princeton. He will be unopposed in November. The conventions stressed the non political nature and integrity of the office and praised Dillard’s efficiency and fairness.
In Berlin New Hampshire a pulpwood mash explosion at the Brown company mill killed one man and critically burned five others. A second man was believed buried beneath 60 foot brick walls. Sulphite fumes forced 300 workers to flee while rescuers searched the ruins. The digestor housing twenty four cords of wood burst. three of eleven nearby workers survived the blast. Damage was initially estimated at one million dollars.
Richard H. Jones a 16 year old of Houston Washington county was sentenced to two years at the National Training School Washington D C for check forgery. He broke parole on a prior charge and then forged five checks totaling 125 dollars for S P Reynolds of Canonsburg after traveling to Memphis Tennessee.
