Blue Island fighting men arrive home with honorable discharges in khaki overcoats. The Blue Island Sun-Standard asks families to notify the paper of each returning soldier or sailor so the community can honor their service and welcome them back to civilian life.
Returning soldiers recount training in cantonments across the country and the loss of pep after armistice. Uniforms likely to be worn in Blue Island for months as men keep khaki before turning gear in. Residents listed include Frank Overstraeten and Charles Ross Snapp with others from the Blue Island area.
Julius Tagge Jr a 21 year old Marine from Blue Island letter dated Nov 16 to his father Police man Julius Tagge Sr reveals he did not know the war had ended. He describes meeting M A Cassel of Wallace and Gregory Sts and praises American troops for rapid action. He is a clarinetist in a marine band and earned a marksman medal.
Frank Overstraeten came home from Jefferson Barracks with an honorable discharge and immediately joined the Habich Brothers' garage as manager. He had left the Blue Island taxi service last year to serve, and after his release plans to work with Habich, saying he is glad to resume civilian life.

An official telegram reports the death of Private Otto Hecht 22 of 49 Greenwood Ave Blue Island from pneumonia and influenza while at a Texas military camp. Hecht born September 10 1896 in Stoddard Wisconsin enlisted June 1 1918 served at Jefferson Barracks Nogales and Texas camp. Survived by brother Arthur Hecht and three Wisconsin brothers and three Wisconsin sisters. funeral at 2 p m Monday December 16 at 49 Greenwood Ave with burial in Burr Oak cemetery.
Preparations are under way to float a Fifth Liberty loan even after the war ends. The term Liberty loan will be retained, with the Blue Island campaign likely run by the same committee as the Fourth Liberty loan. The treasury notes the need to finance peace as the nation did war, with over 2,000,000 troops abroad and extended return times. Patriotism will drive the postwar loan as the country finances a just victorious peace.
War Savings Stamp booths will be set up at Libby McNeill and Libby Gilbert and Bennett plants to push campaign sales.
