Fall Breaks Three Ribs At Blue Island Ice Plant
William Henke of 365 Greenwood Avenue, a part owner supervising an ice shipment, slipped on the icy railroad car floor at the Blue Island Ice Co. plant northwest of the city. Engineer Herbert Hammond Dies After Pneumonia
Herbert Hammond known as Barney, 57, longtime Rock Island locomotive engineer for the Whisky Special out of Peoria, died Thursday at St Francis hospital after pneumonia. He lived 24 years in Blue Island at 283 Union Street and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Masons, and Elks. His funeral will be from the Elks lodge Monday at 2 PM with body lying in state from 8 AM, burial at Mt Greenwood Cemetery.
