Mystery patient identified in Grant Hospital case

The mystery patient at Grant Hospital in Chicago was identified as George Edward Moore, later revealed as William Harris alias Frank Howell The Hoosier Kid He allegedly held up druggist Harvey Stable in Burr Oak Avenue incident Moore’s wife stands by him as police trace his past and detect a safe-blowing record in Atlanta Detectives investigated in Blue Island to pursue the local leg of the case.

Local artists entertain 4000 at Great Lakes Naval Training Station

At the Ravine venue the second program by Mr. Ivan Benner and local talent drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 4000 Jackies. Performers included Laura Holt on piano Margaret Tuomey and Lucy Pettijohn dancing Laura Rexford Pettijohn violin and Ivan Benner singing. A mounting chorus of thanks followed with an invitation to return. Members of the accompanying party were Mrs. Williams Mrs. Dare Miss Porter and Mrs. Benner.

Illinois Food Products Exhibit at National Exposition

Illinois will present an imposing food products display at the National Truck Tractor and Equipment Exposition to be held at Municipal Pier Chicago from September 14 to 21. After a Springfield conference with H V Buelow the exposition manager, Charles Adkins ordered the large Illinois exhibit. Ohio and Wisconsin will also show agricultural displays, with a state good road exhibit and daily lectures on country life.

Fall Breaks Three Ribs At Blue Island Ice Plant

William Henke of 365 Greenwood Avenue, a part owner supervising an ice shipment, slipped on the icy railroad car floor at the Blue Island Ice Co. plant northwest of the city. He fell onto the rails, crushing two ribs and breaking three, with severe bruises. He was taken home and remains in pain but hopes for a speedy recovery.

A government backed War Exposition runs September 2 through 15 in Grant Park. Features include captured trophy displays, military equipment, official motion pictures, aeroplane flights, and demonstrations for wounded veterans, with leaders from Allied nations. Walter Crossland Reported Wounded in Recent Fighting

Mr and Mrs N Crossland receive word from their son Walter a marine wounded in action with injuries to the thigh and back after an operation. A later note says he is getting along fine and to not worry. This marks his second time out of combat after a gas exposure at Chateau Thierry in April.

Misses Helen McGregor Ruth and Mildred Lane Gertrude Verner and Ruth Meyer presented an engaging program at the Oak Forest Tuberculosis Hospital Sunday. The department's young men entertained the inmates and the show was greatly appreciated by all. The performers were thanked for dedicating time and talent to brighten the day for those less fortunate.

Engineer Herbert Hammond Dies After Pneumonia

Herbert Hammond known as Barney, 57, longtime Rock Island locomotive engineer for the Whisky Special out of Peoria, died Thursday at St Francis hospital after pneumonia. He lived 24 years in Blue Island at 283 Union Street and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Masons, and Elks. His funeral will be from the Elks lodge Monday at 2 PM with body lying in state from 8 AM, burial at Mt Greenwood Cemetery.

Blue Island Girls Sparked Robbery Ring Bust

Two Blue Island women sparked police to uncover a large gang of automobile and freight car thieves. Detective work led to sixteen arrests, with confessions of thefts totaling nearly $100,000. Suspects included Spearman, Medworth, Odenheimer, Owens, and Seydel among others.
