Methodist Church Holds Year End Meeting

The last official meeting of the year will be held at the church next Monday evening. Newly elected officers should meet with the board to discuss next year's interests. Attendance rose to 122 at Sunday school last Sunday with a hopeful trend for the season. A small number of elderly members attended the special service, their presence praised as a benediction.

Mathias Sharr of Highland Township died August 29 at sixty two. He was a Greene County Council member, a prominent Democrat, a successful farmer and stock-raiser. Boys Working Reserve enrollment urged in Greene county

The U S Department of Labor seeks 50 000 boys for a Boys Working Reserve to replace workers drafted into the army. Greene county is asked to provide 630 enrollees, with many sturdy local youths ready to meet the quota.

Fire at Parham Bakery Causes Damage and Injuries

A morning fire at the Parham bakery on the Monon building lower floor started when proprietor John Parham lit a gasoline stove and it exploded. Volunteer firefighters with court house apparatus extinguished the blaze. Much flour and material stock was damaged and Parham suffered severe burns to his right hand and arm.

Jones Case Continued Until Thursday

Judge J B Wilson by letter notified County Clerk Ashcraft that the case State vs Jones was continued until Thursday Sept 6. He said he was engaged before the Utilities Commission on Wednesday and directed all witnesses under bond to appear Thursday.

The annual district convention of the Christian Endeavor society opened in Elnora this morning and will continue tomorrow. Miss Della Stein Miss Caroline Stein and Miss Oneta Jean drove to Elnora to attend.
