A series of personal calls and guest arrivals mark a busy period in town life. Residents report neighborly greetings, holiday gatherings, and informal exchanges shared during these social touches.
A flurry of travelers and visitors reported in Bloomfield and surrounding townships. George Stalcup, Earl Brock, Logan Hatfield, Roscoe Baughn, Pauline Riley, Marie Riddle, Thomas Foster, Cap Cravens and family, Simon McDaniel, William Benham, and many others were noted in town. Attendees included Mrs. Perrin visiting Palestine, John Sexson on county business, Floyd Jackson from Bloomington, and more locals visiting relatives and attending events. The week also saw health board matters, jail recommitment notes, and preparations for a Product Show.
The Indiana federation convenes May 24 in Spencer at the Baptist church with Argonaut and Civic Club representation. Morning includes registration, reports, and Endowment Fund remarks. afternoon features officer elections, Liszt music, and Federation work remarks. A towel and apron sale by blind workers supports club fundraising.
Representative Bland, part of the Indiana delegation to Daniel Comstock’s funeral in Washington, was presented a gold mounted umbrella by the miners of local union No. 625 at a hotel in Linton on Sunday. The visit marked a stop in Bland's hometown after the funeral.
A long running Stafford township corruption inquiry threatens to divide local factions. Investigators review 1915 1916 records showing unusual expenditures in poor relief and questioned book entries. Allegations involve trustee Oliver Williams, doctor Lukenbill, and several local residents amid mounting community tension.
Christopher Quillen, a farmer living near Park four miles east of Bloomfield, was found dead in the barn lot yesterday evening about five. The body showed rain exposure. apoplexy was suspected after a postmortem check by undertaker Kidd, with no sign of lightning. The coroner investigated. survivors include a widow, three sons, and two daughters.
The 40th Bloomfield high school commencement was held Friday at the opera house. Dr. Charles H. Taylor gave the class address, with music by the school orchestra led by Miss Josephine Mackintosh. Diplomas were presented by Principal L. L. Martin to 21 graduates including Seeva Ellen Bauer and Joseph Chamberlin.
With schools closed many teachers head home or seek study and travel. Principal L. L. Martin heads to Jamestown for summer. others depart for Evansville Chicago Los Angeles Bloomington Logansport and Indianapolis for farming study music or university programs.
The Saturday session ended with a hung jury in Arthur Ritter jail delivery case while William Hamilton faces trial on the same charge. Other inmates Ashcraft and Clark aided a break by bending a jail bar, with Clark recaptured next morning. Civil and criminal docket items include Vandeventer note suit and multiple verdicts. New cases include May v May and Goodwin v Bridwell on appeal.
Born to Mr and Mrs Seymour Townsend of Bloomfield on May 17, a son.
County Clerk Ashcraft reports permits to wed issued to Arlo George laborer Jackson township and Elsie E Wright of same place L J Gross farmer Marco and Anna Mae Mosier of Marco in the same county.
William Cook of Solsberry was struck by a car driven by a young woman at a street corner in Bloomington Friday. He suffered a badly strained arm and bruises to limbs and body.
