Also recorded are pension awards for Catharine Gary, iron purchase offer by Bloomfield Ice and Produce, and two men Charles Markle and Frank Lundy convicted for keeping children out of school.
Birth announcements report a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Fred Dean on March 17 and a son born to Mr and Mrs William Gainey on March 20. An advertisement promotes Vanmeter Holw Co furniture and old iron pricing options.
The Bloomfield Democrat and the Terre Haute Tribune are offered in a bundled package at three dollars for a year, with the Bloomfield paper delivered twice weekly and the Terre Haute paper daily.

The musical satire Linger Longer Lucy features Billy S. Clifford in the title role with a premier lead and top supporting talent. The company promises sharp humor, modern songs, and a strong ensemble. A brass band will perform a free street concert at 4 PM and 7:15 PM before the show on March 27.
George Solsman, born January 17 1847 in Hessa Castle Germany, died March 18 1917. A pioneer Greene county resident who settled in Ohio then Indiana, he lived on the home place for fifty two years and witnessed local farming progress. He married Margaret Vanmeter in 1870 and had five children. Surviving are Mrs Laura Linsmier and Lifors Solsman. later married Sophia Minster with children Carl Solsman and Mrs Martha Meurer. He leaves twelve grandchildren, four sisters and one brother, notably Mrs Elizabeth Berkhart.
The Page land case near Greene County returns to the Sullivan Circuit Court as parties seek a compromise after the trial opened. Richard Page, who settled in Stockton township circa 1857 with Bobst, faced allegations of an intimate relationship and a contested paternity involving eight children.

Three hundred twenty nine students enroll in university military training after installation. Two classes schedule at 6 15 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon to avoid conflicts with other activities. Training begins the week of March 12 with uniforms and guns to follow and a shooting gallery to be installed. The program is voluntary with a student pledge and university credit for both courses.
A Madison Wisconsin forest products lab developed a method to replace 20 to 30 percent of rag stock with waste hemlock tan bark in felt roofing. The Forest Service reports mills are using the process commercially and that finished product quality matches rag only roofing. Officials say bark utilization will cut manufacture costs.

The United States Navy plans 66 new vessels including battle cruisers battleships destroyers and submarines. Estimated steel totals per ship type amount to as high as 18 761 tons for battleships 15 025 tons for battle cruisers 325 tons for destroyers and 186 tons for submarines with hospital and ammunition ships needing 4 000 tons each. At 70 dollars a ton the steel cost alone exceeds 10 million dollars.
The New Jersey Mosquito Extermination association asks the legislature to appropriate 100000 for prosecuting a scientific war on mosquitoes. The measure supplements county city and town funds for drainage of salt marshes, filling lowlands, and studying insect habits. The plan targets redeveloping over 200000 acres of currently useless land for agriculture.
Greene county commissioners met in special session to sign bonds for the Eel river ditch and several roads in Washington and Richland townships. The issue totals 150 bonds worth 46 639 04 for Eel river ditch, 1 177 72 for Jefferson township ditch, 7 250 00 for Alexander J Bays road, and 225 00 each for Bert Edwards road.
