Mrs. Burke visits Martinsville. residents from Switz City, Stockton, Vincennes, Sullivan, and others travel to Bloomfield for business. Notable items include legal sessions by Hays & Hays, Beasley and Bordinett, an insane confirmation for John W. Morgan, pension increase for John W. Garrett, and a lecture by Robert F. Leeds. Community programs span Safe Foods to Legislation with a Worthington choral society startup.
Loyal Osborn Parker Thompson and Tillman Sharr of near Calvert ville were riding in a new Overland when it ran off the White River Ferry near Worthington. The car tilted on its side and all three men escaped by swimming to the boat. They found shelter with the ferryman James Drake until dry clothes were fetched. The car was recovered with minor damage and no blame attached to the ferryman.
D. H. Baldridge received a telegram from Ross Calland saying their new Newcastle home was completely demolished in Sunday night’s storm. The family escaped unharmed, but the loss is heavy for Calland, a well known figure around Bloomfield Switz City and Lyons.
Mr and Mrs Cyril VanMeter entertained many friends at dinner Sunday evening. Guests included Mr and Mrs Glenn Stalcup Mr and Mrs Russell Fuller Mr and Mrs Albert McLaughlin Mr and Mrs Homer Knox Mr and Mrs Mel Mitchell and Mr and Mrs Lowell Parker. The Reading Club meets tomorrow afternoon with Mrs W F Spooner. The Mothers Club is entertained tonight at Mrs Cushman's home with a miscellaneous program. Miss Haseltine Welch celebrated her sixteenth birthday with a Saturday party. The Civic Club held its monthly meeting at the public library assembly room Monday afternoon.
George W. Thompson, stationed with the 8th band C A at Fort Barrancas near Pensacola, is a former Linton newspaperman and post office worker. He enlisted June 18 1908 at Vincennes Indiana and serves nine years in the army, now as first sergeant of the 8th Band C A Fort Barrancas Florida.
Mrs. W. S. Hall travels to Maron Illinois after a message announced her mother's stroke. She arrives to learn her mother died before she could reach her.
Miss Margaret Hayes daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilbur Hayes of Worthington died Monday in Lincoln where she had been treated for several weeks. She was a Worthington graduate.
Obituary notes the death of a Worthington resident with services pending at Worthington funeral home. Survived by parents four sisters and two brothers with sister Mrs Price caring for her. remains taken to Worthington for bequeathment and rites.
Willis Ledgerwood, a department foreman at a chair factory, injured his right hand while using a joiner yesterday. He lost two fingers and nearly severed another, then dressed the wound and sought medical help at the office.
Two hundred attended last Sunday with sixty three in the men’s class. The Alpha class fell one short of its goal and lost its rank but plans to atone next Sunday. Mrs Pringle’s class also fell short but rain affected attendance. Thanks given to all who helped achieve a good record.
Maple reports Mrs William Hickam and Miss Lillie Hays on sick lists with smallpox quarantine. Visits include Walter Dyer in Arney and several families in Cary Dyer and Solon Arney households. Rev McBride preached at Bethsadia. Uncle William Williams dies in Worthington and is buried in Williams cemetery.
Citizens press for free mail delivery as inspector endorses sidewalks lighting and street design. Box costs estimated at fifty to one hundred dollars, board defers action after election amid petitions from local clubs and sororities.
F H Seeley of Chicago and Philadelphia, famed truss expert, will be at the Meredith Hotel in Washington this Monday March 19 from 9 am to 3 pm. He promotes the Spermatic Shield claiming rapid rupture closure without surgery and offers charity cases or fittings at no charge. Seeley notes government documents and verification before federal and state courts.
Saturday morning the sheriff Jeptha Moss reported his auto, a Ford, damaged by fire in front of the jail residence where a prisoner had been brought in. Firefighters used a hose, but the top and upholstery burned. the car ran again after a new bed was fitted and it was back in service in about thirty minutes.
Q G Hasler and D H Mitchell traveled to Bloomfield on business. Fred Dailey visiting from Brazil. Mrs John Mitchell and son Fred went to Bloomfield. Families and friends attended gatherings and visits, with several mentions of Redmen lodge time and local events. A stork delivered a new baby to Will Overman. Cataract fever sickness noted for Bernard and Gaylord Sparks. Maple syrup season included a Rook game and a starry weekend visit by multiple families.
Mrs Ida Bryan died this morning at six o'clock at the home of her daughter Mrs Frank Davis in Buffalo New York.
