A string of recent social calls and visits highlights the season. Residents welcome neighbors, relatives, and visitors stopping by homes, churches, and clubs for chats, meals, and small community events.
Linton residents Roy Spice Walter Wills and Fred Ambaker travel to Bloomfield while names such as John Davidson postmaster Lyons C C Kirk Lyons and Arthur Grass Lin ton teacher appear in local business and social listings. Attendees travel to Bloomington Indianapolis and Cleveland for events and visits as kin and neighbors share news of illness travel and gatherings.
Rev. G. P. Crawford of Odon has learned through English officials he is heir to one sixth of his grandfather John A. Crawford's estate in London. The $160,000 portion will be paid to him via the federal court in Indianapolis.
Owen County reports two schoolhouses burned in four days. Friday morning the Shilo school near Freeman was found on fire and burned to the ground. On Monday the Smith school burned with only seats saved. Pupils improvise in temporary quarters for the rest of the term.
In 1895 96 Professor Roentgen's radiations were reported in Chicago papers. Bloomington senior Perry learned of the Crookes tube work and rushed to the Foley laboratory. They successfully produced an X Ray photograph showing the bones of a sunfish within about two hours.

The churches report rising attendance at evangelistic meetings. Evening services are at 7 30 nightly and 7 Sunday, with afternoon meetings at 2 30 Tuesday through Friday. Sunday morning service is expected to be especially helpful. Meetings will continue next week.
Next Sunday at the Christian Church includes a noon picnic, a full day program, and the burning of the long standing mortgage. The pastor will deliver the sixth sermon on Christian Character Brotherly Kindness. Evening sermon and a joint tabernacle meeting with Castle Hill and Jasonville evangelist Bob Johnson lead a citywide religious event.
Mrs. W L Cavins hosts Thimble Club event this afternoon. Larkin Club met at Mrs. Milford Greene s home on Wednesday. Mrs P J Harrah entertained the Presbyterian Ladies Missionary Society in honor of retiring president Mrs Earl Hicks. Camp Ramona girls met Tuesday evening with Miss Mary Cravens.

Jesse Shantz a Lyons school teacher resigns to take the post of local cashier at the Corn Exchange Bank Lyons. Miss Edith Wells is chosen by trustee Rollison to fill the vacancy.
Indiana University records preserve the earliest X ray photograph made in Indiana and possibly the United States. It was created by Prof. A L Foley of the Physics Department and Oscar Perry, class of 1897, who later became chief.
Linton Dick Tanner visited Bloomfield while Harry Welch spent the week in Terre Haute. Mrs. Joe Jarvis traveled Sullivan and Mrs. Ellan Brown stopped in Terre Haute. Miss Ethel Payne of Cass and Miss Nellie Thompson with Lillian Gazelle of Dugger were in town Wednesday. The Qua Paw Council degree of Pocahontas initiated a Cass class Tuesday night. Rev. Moore visited Newberry for his father’s bedside. College Hill Club received guests Thursday from Mrs. Art Love. A George Washington program was planned as Chas. Winders and Kenneth Campbell from Indianapolis visited relatives and went to Coalmont.
Twenty centers will host preliminary rounds for 214 high schools in the state tournament with finals set March 16 and 17 in the new Indiana University Gym. Last year 198 teams participated, prompting more centers and four extra Bloomington entrants. Indiana University faces Wisconsin March 15 as boosters invite visiting teams a day early to attend a college game. Bloomington citizens prepare for the big annual event and the boosters club adds plans to welcome visitors.
The Maston-McKinley bill passed the House 68 to 24 with 15 democrats and 9 republicans voting against it. The governor will sign when it reaches him. Prohibition, Constitutional Convention and Woman Suffrage are now practically certain this session.
The act allows Indiana women aged 21 with citizenship and residence to vote for presidential electors and constitutional delegates and for ratifying a new constitution. It also covers state officers not named in the constitution, city and county roles, and school officers, with the law to take effect when the governor proclaims enforcement likely in April.
The Hemphill bill allowing manufacturers to produce and ship alcohol into wet states after prohibition ends was killed yesterday by a very small margin, ending all liquor legislation for the term.
Henry Bedwell of Grant township was unloading wood when his foot slipped and he fell from a wagon, breaking three ribs. He had been drawn as a grand juror for the term but cannot serve due to the injury.
Long Hill district debates site of a new school while preserving a stone building claimed to be two centuries old. The old structure, on a hill, housed one of Connecticut’s earliest teachers, John H E Cooke, linked to John Brown’s raid era. Byers, nephew of H W Byers and Des Moines corporation counsel, wins a unique U S government contract to carry mail by air two trips weekly between Nome and a distant inland camp 881 miles away for 49500 dollars annually. The route traverses mountainous terrain with no landing strips and deep winter snows raising crash risks, yet Byers designed navigation methods for Alaska conditions and tested with four passengers on a trial run.

The U S Marshal Mark Storen rounds up politicians at Evansville with bonds set from 1000 to 5000 dollars. Among those surrendering are former postmaster Charles Sihler jeweler Charles Artes Republican county chairman Frank De Jarnett bank president Marcus Sontag and others including colored politicians and a colored attorney. In all eighty one Republicans are said to be under indictment, delaying completion of the task for several days.
John Frederick Fields two years old the son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Fields died Tuesday afternoon from pneumonia contracted after measles. Funeral services were held at the Christian church at eleven o clock Thursday morning conducted by Rev Merritt Owen, with burial in Grandview cemetery.
Thomas H Grounds shipped a registered Polled Angus bull to Indianapolis markets. The 1710 pound bull sold for 9.50 dollars per hundred pounds, fetching 194.40 dollars—the highest price in Indianapolis market history.
