He urged yield for public welfare and Mexico border support, while noting federal eight hour standards already apply to government workers and factories. Workers seek shorter hours, not higher pay, to ease health and family strain.
Railroad officials stress that 718 per cent of workers receive 28 per cent of total wages but the argument ignores training years and danger. The Interstate Commerce Commission notes trainmen die about every 4 hours 40 minutes and injuries are undercounted. Only 17 of 100 firemen become engineers, six reach passenger engines. average service is 11.5 years. Physical exams are strict and repeated. hours exceed government limits. many violations. The wedding of Don Herold, son of Mr and Mrs O F Herold, and Miss Katharine Porter Brown, daughter of Mr and Mrs Edgar A Brown of Indianapolis, occurred in New York on August 12. The couple will reside in New York where he works with the Adams Syndicate and Bartlet & Co Press.
The National Farm Tractor Demonstration at Indianapolis runs Monday August 28 through Friday September 1 on a 1000 acre tract six miles west of the city. It opens Monday at 2 PM with speeches by Gov. Ralston Mayor Bell and other leaders. Farmers are the primary audience and will be guests of honor at any time during the week.

The Eel river ditch contract will be let Friday at Brazil. The project requires moving earth more than fifty feet from the ditch center and uses a large dredge boat and derrick. It spans about twenty four miles and could reclaim extensive land in Greene, Clay and Owen counties. Attorneys W. L. Cavins, Hickam & Hickam, and G. S. Payne represent the ditch.
John Ledgerwood and Grace Arnett of Linton obtained a marriage license and were married in the city, marking a new union between local residents.
