The Democrat of Greene county bids farewell as owner-editor departs after selling the Bloomfield paper to James P. Barron of Troy Ohio. He commends Barron to readers and patrons, recalling twenty years of service and asking for support and forgiveness for past errors.
W M Moss offers an affectionate final farewell to all in Greene County and to the patrons of the Democrat, wishing them long lives and continued prosperity in a respectful message.
A list of delegates selected to the county convention, to be held in the opera house next Saturday at 10 oclock a.m., includes representatives from Richland, Stockton, Washington, Taylor, Smith, Cass, Highland, Beech Creek, Wright, and Center townships with names such as Captain J T Oliphant, Joshua Neal Bart Goodmen, John Davidson, Wm Baker, William Elgan, John Johnson, Wm Bland, Philbert Fry, B J Meredith, and many others.
Richland township Democrats set for Saturday after speeches to nominate their township ticket. Will Herrington is strongly favored for trustee, praised as honest, Christian, and an exemplary citizen despite the likely tough odds. The piece skewers the idea that party labels would bar his election.

Constable L N Miller was at Linton Monday. G W Nash of Newark visits his son O W Nash. The basket meeting at Embery church was well attended. D W Henry of Terre Haute was on our streets last week. Green Letsinger works on the railroad as section hand. Jasonville opens a new harness shop. Bedwell of Linton shipped a car load of cattle to Indianapolis. Rogers did business with Squire David B Taylor last Friday. Mrs Liza Miller and family visited Westhingen relatives Friday and Saturday. Samuel Bonham sold his farm to a coal company and will relocate in Jasonville soon.
G W Marshall was at Spencer on business Friday. W D Wright of Freedom visited Saturday seeking timber. Mr Bailey of Indianapolis brief visit to Geo Wat sons. Esq Resler bought a new horse and drives the best team in town. J D Nash and family of Worthington visited last week. they have recovered from measles. Mrs Eliza Crow very low with palsy. Hafner of Columbus looking after Richland creek real estate and considering drainage of the bath ing resort. Rev Breeden preached at M E church Sunday. seven baptized and Mabel Robertson Kissie Arthur Dollie Cornelius baptized at creek. Graduating exercises set for Aug 11 with Prof Brown of Bloomfield to address. Music between orations. Grand time anticipated.

Jane Smith visited friends near Cuba, Miss Stella Calvert is ill at home near Farmer, and James Smith of Shilo spent Sunday with his brother. Numerous calls and events including music lessons, Sunday visits, and an ice cream social are recorded with local families and teachers named.
Wayne Davenport visits grandfather T Bogard. Mr Byers moves into Aunt Sabra Dugger’s house. No vacant houses remain. Mrs Mary Cade and daughter-in-law visit Mrs T Bogard and her aunt.
Marion Gwin was at Spencer on business Saturday. David Porter was at Bloomfield Sunday on business. Tra Wright and Elmer Christy traded horses last week. Eel Miller and a Newark lady spent Sunday with Sam Miller and family. Hettie and Sadie Sample returned home from Broomfield last week. Jennie Hickam of Owen county planned a visit Saturday with Mrs Fda Kaper. Ezzie Gwin and Della Wilson were out buggy riding Sunday in Bunzie's buggy. Mas Rice of Brazil visited aunt Mrs W Dr Wright the past week. Milikan Hudson and wife visited Mrs Hudson's mother, Mrs Porter, Sunday. Willie and John McHaley and families stayed at Hendricksaville Saturday night and Sunday with Oliver McHaley. John Hood Arthur and family of Newark passed through en route to Huetsville to visit Sherman Arthur. Ida Raper returned Friday from Spencer where she had been two weeks drinking artesian water. She thinks it helped her some.
Last Monday evening about fifty attendees including pupils and priests gathered at Mrs B W Carpenters home at 417 Main Street for a piano recital. The program featured pieces by pupils such as Ruby Farrah Moonlight Ella Nicholson Molly Stark Mamie Brown Vernon Kidd and Hattie Milligan with duets by Mamie Brown and Hattie Milligan Selah Oliphant Napoleon Band and Laura White Josie Quillen among others. A vocal duet Selah Oliphant with Laura White performed and an Organ Selection was played by Audrey Hattabaugh.
A July 4 incident reports a suspected mad dog from near Bloomington killed north of town. It bit a cow owned by Mr. Humphreys, a jack belonging to Wesley Carmichael, and a dog owned by Wm. D. Beard near Solsberry. Stock died the rest of the week, prompting warnings to monitor for rabid dogs and possible inoculations.
A picnic party formed by the families of A. J. Shields John E Bryan John W. Graham J W Ritter C C Ballard Allen Williams Theo Pringle J G Hert Lee Johnson J H Persons and Mrs Alice Fields with Miss Nellie Fields traveled yesterday to Flum Cave in Martin County for a day outing.
Mrs. Dr. H. R. Lowder, recent patient in Indianapolis, will arrive Wednesday evening greatly improved and ready to recover her health permanently. Their daughter Miss Mildred will accompany her as she returns home.
In an amusing incident at Geoffroy St Hilaire’s residence a valued diamond necklace vanished. Mme St Hilaire blamed a trusted baboon after the master naturalist suggested the creature played with a similar object. The necklace was not in the study, where the master rarely entered, and no trace was found. Later at a social gathering the naturalist quipped that the baboon had played with a thing like the necklace.
A long family feud in Christian County Missouri over a shared fence led to a deadly clash between the Meadows and Bilyeu families. Bud Meadows and allies attacked. Steve Bilyeu, his sons, and wife fought back with knives and guns. Steve and his son Jimmie were killed. Bud and family members were wounded. Johnny Bilyeu, eighty, defended the fight. Arrests followed as the elder deplored the violence.
A London report notes a sick traveler cutting a telegraph line across Australia to obtain aid, nearly severing Europe from news for a day. The incident prompts caution against treating such acts as a precedent for summoning help.
