The notice lists events around town including Prof C Danielson teaching in the coming school year at City, a wall paper sale by JB Stareup, an opera house program Saturday with an Indianian speaker, and a heavy artillery reunion at Worthington. It also mentions church services, a new Democratic paper at Spencer, and local announcements such as births, printing plans, and school board actions.
A group headed by Doyle Graham and including O. G. Coen John Cushman Winnie Ambaker George Cantwell Will Ryan Lexa Dickard Fred Williams and wives Miss Florence French Emma Ross Lulu Tansy Ella Neal Inez Graham Bertha Riddie Flora Barton left camp at Rock Riffle yesterday. They will stay a week or ten days to enjoy life and fish.
Elder W B Covert preaches at Walnut Grove Sunday morning and for a week of popular lectures. On Sunday Aug 12 a Basket Meeting will be held. Elder M S Newcomer D D and Rev Mary Newcomer of Decatur Ill will preach. Three services 10 30 am 3 30 pm and 7 30 pm. All are cordial welcomed.

Last Thursday Mrs Mina Butcher hired a horse and buggy at Oliphant's livery stable and drove to her farm. A loose hold-back strap caused the horse to run and kick, tossing Mrs Butcher from the buggy and injuring her. A bystander caught the horse and brought her to Capt Booze, later she was hospitalized and is recovering. The horse died that evening. Dr Van Sandt's horse ran away Friday causing a sprained ankle to the doctor.
The board of directors led by Samuel Alverson and Hugh Devore fixed rates for the new Spencer telephone exchange at Glover's Restaurant. Residents pay 25 cents monthly and offices 50 cents, with free use of county lines and 6000 phones in Owen Putnam and Morgan counties plus Gosport and Cloverdale exchanges. The system invites country lines to connect on a living basis, improving Spencer's service.
Hendren and Slinkard advertise a mortgage loan on good improved terms with interest from 5 to 53 percent per year. Flexible payments of $100 or multiples on any interest payday. Reasonable commission and best terms in the money market. Money can be procured in four days if necessary.
The catalogue notes the year just closed saw the attendance exceed one thousand for the third time in institution history with representation from every Indiana county. Readership from Bloomfield Linton Worthington Switz City Hobbieville Newark Marco Calvertville Cincinnati and others are listed as correspondents as the new editor seeks to improve the Democrat through continued correspondence.
