Eva Clark, a young woman from Orrumna, drowned when a boat capsized on a river near Ortunwis on July 6. Her companion Thomas Reardon is missing and presumed drowned as rescue crews drag the river for his body.
In Fanao North Dakota on July 6 a local case of septicaemia linked to bootleg whisky prompts police and health officials to quarantine the house. Four additional men who drank the liquor died within days, with names Louis Bye Ole Olson B Johnson and Charles Kjus among the victims. Doctors report no contagion risk, samples sent to a chemist, and officials caution the public while investigations continue.
Syracuse July 5 The jury in the People versus Robert Fitzsimmons returned a not guilty verdict after nearly four hours deliberation. The foreman announced the finding to loud cheers as Judge Rosa's gavel failed to quell the excitement.
