Great Fire Destroys Prime Business Block In City

A devastating blaze swept the heart of the city destroying the most handsome business portion. Fire spread with incredible speed, consuming buildings and belongings as crews battled the flames. No injuries reported, authorities investigate cause and assess damages.

Destructive City Fire Destroys Main Block in Bismarck

A ferocious blaze swept through Bismarck's business district in under three hours, destroying numerous brick blocks and nearly the entire row on Main Street. Firefighters from Bismarck and Mandan fought back amid wind and smoke as warehouses, banks, and residences burned, with extensive property losses and plans to rebuild in brick.

Buildings Destroyed List in City Fire

A sweeping blaze razed multiple structures in the city including the Northern Pacific freight warehouse and depot, Capital Bank, Morria shoe store, Best's dry goods, Brady’s residence over store, Hare’s hardware, the Bismarck Tribune Company, Dietrich meat market, Phelps stationery, Mrs. Wilcox dry goods, Small’s restaurant, McKinney’s barber shop, Wen’s cigar store, Gorsuch’s repair shops, Cunz’s cigar factory, Gussner’s grocery, and Remington’s drug store among others. The disaster wiped out commercial and residential properties, with extensive damage reported across downtown.
