Jerome Kohn a 52 year old wholesale tobacco dealer of Billings died when his sedan plunged 150 feet off the Rimrocks north of the city at about 11 30 a m His car landed nose down on the airport highway and rolled 25 feet below the edge The Horazdovice born immigrant had settled in Billings in 1908 and operated his own wholesale tobacco business at 2516 First Avenue North since recent years He was married in 1915 to Freda Quittner of New York City and had previously trave led eastern Montana for L S Cohn Co the former wholesale house and dealer in Butte
Fort Benton Oct 22 Mark Kaulbach 19 of Fort Benton was wounded fatally Saturday when a loaded shotgun he was placing in an automobile accidentally discharged during a duck hunting trip to the Nichols reservoir 19 miles east of Fort Benton. He died in a local hospital about an hour later. This marks the state's second hunting fatality of the year.
Governor Roy Ayers told Lewistown Democrats that Roosevelt is stronger in Montana than ever. He said state and federal efforts work harmoniously and all state officials back the President. Ayers credited the AAA for aiding farmers during hard times and boosting income despite economic confusion.
Mrs. Jane Harper died at her daughter’s home in Harlowton. Funeral at the Lutheran church at 2 p m Friday, burial in Mountain View beside her husband. Born in Edinburgh July 21 1867, she married John J. Harper April 12 1888. Survivors include four daughters, three sons, 18 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a sister.

Ethan H. Cowles 95 the lone Civil War veteran from Park and Sweet Grass counties died last Saturday in Salem Oregon where he lived with his daughter Mrs Chester Cox. He leaves a grandson Don Cowles and daughter-in-law Jewell Cowles. Cowles came to Montana in 1883 to manage cattle for Concord Cattle company and later led a long trail and ranching career. He was first president of the Montana Livestock association and attended the 1884 Miles City convention. Funeral services were held in Woodburn Oregon.
Sam Eik 72 a pioneer Absarokee farmer and rancher died at Columbus hospital from stomach cancer Friday night He came to this country 65 years ago from Norway and was naturalized five years after arrival He is survived by two brothers Ole Forest Range Olaf Winnett and cousins Miles Nelson Bik Absarokee Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm at St Olaf's Lutheran church with burial in Absarokee cemetery
A federal grand jury in Newark has indicted 32 individuals and 16 companies in a $250000 fraud conspiracy alleged to involve fixing arbitrary prices for sand and stone used in WPA projects across three north Jersey counties. The case stems from an investigation by WPA agents.
Agriculture department estimated world wheat production for 1938-39 at 4.365 billion bushels, the largest on record. The figure, up about 20 million from last month and 525 million above 1937-38, with total world supplies near 4.961 billion bushels. Miss Katie Davies was appointed temporary clerk of the district court by Yellowstone county commissioners after the death of George M. Hays Sr. She has served as deputy in the clerk's office for eight years and previously in the county treasurer’s office for four years. Davies is the daughter of Mrs. R. N. Davies of 102 Avenue C and the late R. N. Davies, a longtime Billings real estate man.
Dorothy Hale, 33, actress and art enthusiast, died after a 16 story fall from her Hampshire Housing apartment facing Central Park. Police treat the death as probably self-inflicted. Hopkins, WPA administrator and friend, is deeply affected. Hale had been linked romantically to Hopkins after being introduced by James Roosevelt.
John M. Carnahan, the Missoula telegraph operator who flashed the 1876 Little Big Horn news to the nation and handled Custer's official messages, died at 89 after a brief illness. He sent about 80,000 words over two shifts and lived with the Malone family in Orchard Homes.
