First church in Big Timber forms amid effort and delay
In winter 1884 the first religious service was held in Big Timber by Rev. Alfred Browne from Billings. A Sunday School began in 1885 organized by Mrs. Hatch and the ministry cycled through several pastors. A 1891 subscription raised about 600 dollars, but the 1893 panic stalled progress. In 1894 Rev. J. F. Pritchard began mission work. by 1895 a gray stone church costing 2500 dollars with 100 seats was built. Pritchard now conducts two services monthly while a resident pastor is sought.
