Reed Point man defends detour charges after wreck deaths
Alfred Ostrum of Reed Point explains he asked motorists for a dollar to use a makeshift detour around a car tanker crash that killed three. He says payments were voluntary, denies exploiting tragedy, and notes his home served as an emergency center while cleanup and aid occurred. Mahlum Rites Held for Christs Eight in Livingston
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Franzen Chapel for Christs Eight who died Thursday night at Livingston Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Rev. Stanley West officiated as music by Joyce Mosback and Margaret Heinrich accompanied burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers named Wendel Evan, Sivert Bakke, Leonard Mahlum, Joe Mahlum, Ron Mahlum, and Eugene Leer. Born January 24 1880 in Veldre teedemarken Norway he married Sigrid Fossenrud in 1901 and moved to Edinburg North Dakota in 1906. He later lived in Yellowstone Park before retiring to Livingston in 1965. Surviving are four sons Axel and Sig Mahlum Livingston George Mahlum Arlington Washington Roy Mahlum Big Timber two daughters Esther Leer Edinburgh North Dakota and Ragnhild Windlingland Edinburgh North Dakota numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Fall Band Concert Friday Evening at the High School

Friday's homecoming parade enjoyed sunshine and warmth with strong wind. The sophomore float won with a fully covered design, seniors placed second with a giant hammer and nail, juniors third with wind trouble, freshmen depicted a large thermometer. Body of Drowning Victim Recovered
The body of Miss Ramona Aus 21 of Cut Bank who drowned almost four months ago in the Boulder river near Natural Bridge falls was recovered Sunday about two hundred yards downstream from the accident site. Henry Elgen found the body caught on a log under two feet of water as Sheriff Kenneth continued weekly river checks with assistance from Norman Starr Bill Kinsey Lorn Pudwill Eigen Frank Richerdean Lyle Olsen Bozeman and Leo Statt Anaconda including three divers.
