Racer Killed As State Fair EndRace Closes In Tragedy
At the State Fair grounds Helena on Sept 29 two serious crashes ended the motorcycle and automobile races. M Palen of Crookston and William Espe collided after one motorcycle fell. Palen died on site and Espe was fatally injured. W C Moore was seriously hurt. In the auto race James Reynolds and Stanley Smith crashed. Reynolds recovered to drive back to town while Smith was uninjured though his car was wrecked. Clarence Averill, Reynolds’ mechanic, suffered a broken arm and facial injuries.
