A lyric tenor known for radio programs in Michigan and Washington, he will also present movies and slides about West Indies life on select evenings.

Fr. John Gilhooley replaces Fr. Thomas Connelly at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Gilhooley comes from Stockett Montana and has spent ten years serving along the high line. Mass at Big Timber Sunday 7:30 and 10:30 a m and Reed Point 9 a m.
American Legion district 7 plans erecting iron crosses at fatal traffic accident sites across highways. District meeting in Gardiner featured Governor Violet Bellach of Girls State and Fort Benton Auxiliary trio as highlights. Attendees included units from Bozeman Big Timber Livingston White Sulphur Springs Manhattan Three Forks and Gardiner.
Forest Ranger Alban Roemer warns of critical dryness and elevated fire danger. Fireguards are back in Region 1 covering Montana North Dakota and part of South Dakota after two large fires last week burned more timber than the entire previous summer.
Alva A. Lamp aged 77 a noted Sweet Grass county rancher died apparently of a heart attack at his Polson home. He had a long coronary condition and was found on the floor when his wife Mary Lamp returned from work. Funeral services are set for Saturday in Polson with burial there. Ronald Halverson and Mrs. Mary Lamp will attend the services.
Helena reports State Republican Chairman Joe McElwain accuses President Truman of twisting words to slur General Eisenhower. He recalls a wartime pledge to support Ike for 1948 and cites Eisenhower’s 1940s commentary about presidency and wartime leadership.
Johnny and Michael Westervelt sons of Mr and Mrs Paul Westervelt visited Bozeman Monday for the livestock auction. Each purchased a registered Angus cow with Johnny taking the best cow of the day. They were accompanied by Don Murray and Fred Sargent.
Northern Pacific will cut transcontinental times on the North Coast Limited by 12 hours westbound and 9.5 hours eastbound starting Sunday November 16. President Robert S. Macfarlane announced a $5.8 million order for new equipment including 16 Vista Dome cars. A second transcontinental train, The Peaineteenes, will also start November 16 via Helena.
The Reverend E. Brentwood Barker was ordained at the Yellowstone association meeting held at First Congregational Church. Eight ministers and church leaders participated as Mrs Barker joined her husband for the robe and fellowship. The service concluded seven years of preparation with messages on fellowship growth and pastoral guidance.
The Tronruds marked their twenty fifth anniversary Sunday at their Sweet Grass ranch with over 120 guests. Bud Ward hosted the event and presented silver gifts. Harry Hart and Lloyd Rein spoke. the couple expressed thanks. They were married Sept 23 1927 in Butte and have resided in Big Timber, then on the Sweet Grass ranch for 24 years. their children Mrs Killian Weinfurter and Morris Jr attended.
The Montana fish and game commission approved a 17 day season for Hungarian partridge and ringneck pheasant starting October 26. Hours run noon to 5 p m on opening day and 8 a m to 5 p m from October 27 to November 11. Only cock pheasants may be taken with a shotgun not larger than 10 gauge holding three shells. Bag and possession limits are three birds total. Four areas near Sweet Grass Carbon Lake Sanders counties close to Hun hunting but stay open for pheasants.
Robert Cosgriff Ed Adam and Thorvald Simonson attended the Remnant club of the 362nd regiment Ninety first Powder River division in Lewis town for its thirtieth annual meeting. Fritz Hayes of Forsyth gave the main address. Next year the meeting returns to Jordan. Also note a baby born September 28 Diane Kay daughter of Mr and Mrs Braaten. Kamrowski visit from Los Angeles to see Victor Allman in Melville. A patient at Community under care of Mrs Mervin Sell was listed as improving.
Hans Helvik and the Solberg store helped clothe Cem, a Korean war orphan in the 78th AAA artillery unit in Korea. About 43.15 in clothing plus 17.76 postage funded the aid with contributions from Hans and his parents. Cem now wears civilian clothes and a warm sweater, aided by the Helvik family and local merchants.
County rural schools received a total check of 35.25 for fair exhibits. Kent Lake led with multiple first places in education bulletins and crafts, followed by Otter Creek and Bridge with second and third place finishes in plates, drawings, textiles, and stained glass items.
