Supreme Court voids district tax when over half oppose
The Montana supreme court ruled that special improvement districts and district taxes are void if more than half of affected property owners oppose. In Lavina Henslop vs city of Butte, the council created a district and levied a tax of 400.06 despite objections, and the court ordered further proceedings after reversing an injunction. Justice Hleoway delivered the opinion.

Murder charge follows fatal affray in Stillwater
Frank Morris dies after a street fight in which J Rankin and A Hughes quarrelled in a saloon. Morris struck Rankin with a poker, Rankin later struck Morris, who died from a fractured skull. Rankin is jailed on murder charges after an autopsy confirmed the skull fracture. Morris’s brother is a Stillwater sheepman. Rankin is a farm laborer with two years in the area. A Thanksgiving primary program and Nickel Plate Holiday Rates are also noted.
