Grant Approved for State Hospital Housing Project
A federal grant of 55,832 supports half the 111,664 cost to build new housing at Warm Springs State Hospital. Construction can start once equipment and labor are available. Leyte Philippines November 1 The Nineteenth regiment of the Twenty fourth Division led the Leyte valley drive and has an enviable record of killing 1300 Japanese while losing eight men. Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel G H Chapman of Evanston Wyoming the regiment distinguished itself in the Hollandia campaign with expert patrol work.

Up to yesterday noon $1,768.25 had been collected toward the $3,200 quota for Sweet Grass county. Donors urged not to wait for solicitors to call, visit the bank, Montana Power, or C. E. Smart to contribute. One solicitor collected 300 pennies. Mrs. Carl W. Ewan reports a unique calf donation plan and a growing herd of about 20 head to support the 1944 U S O war fund drive and 1945 Red Cross quota.

Will Churchill Leads Pioneers Society Membership Change
Twenty four members and guests attended Sweet Grass County Pioneers annual banquet at the high school. Officers elected include Will Churchill president and George Rostad vice president. The society changed eligibility to allow sons and daughters of pioneers at 37 or Montana residents 40 years in the county for membership with a one dollar entry fee and fifty cents annual dues.

DeWild Warns Local Retailers of Postwar Expansion
John H. DeWild of the Minneapolis Civic and Commerce Association told local retailers at the fire hall that a new era in retailing would bring expanded industrial activity and higher business volume for Sweet Grass County. He cited a postwar housing program of 198000 and car expenditures of 140000, with appliances and furnishings totaling 54000. He showed plastics and new materials and urged merchants to study them. Lamp Dies After Sudden Illness in Big Timber
Frank M. Lamp 75 died after an acute illness. He lived near Big Timber, Montana, served as state senator, clerk of court, county attorney, and school board member. Funeral held at Big Timber Lutheran Church with Rev. H B Tool officiating. Surviving wife Mary Priddy Lamp, son Paul, siblings, and five grandchildren.
