Trustees of School District No 17 Sweet Grass county Montana invite bids to furnish materials and construct a schoolhouse per plans at H Bliss hardware Big Timber. Bids open 2 pm Saturday November 15 1902 at the clerk’s office. Bond required. trustees may reject any bids. Send communications to Clerk Thos Cosgrif Grey Cliff MT. Sheep wintering ad and other notices follow.
Notice to Bridge Builders. Bids will be received by the board of county commissioners of Sweet Grass county Mont up to the first Monday in December 1902 for erection of a bridge over the Sweet Grass river at Mudland crossing. Each bidder must submit plans per general specifications available at the county surveyor’s office or by letter. J Ht Moore County Clerk.
Announcement states that from November 1 coal deliveries will include all bills and payments will be collected or coal returned.
Sweetgrass County voters gave a strong majority to the Republican state ticket and elected the full county slate in a quiet election. Turnout was light with notable splits, as Dixon and Holloway led county races while Brownlee trailed Cowles in the legislature. The Melville precinct showed a sharp drop from last year’s 71 votes to about 50.
Brownlee carried all but Lower Stillwater and Merrill where he trailed by small margins. American Fork supported Brownlee solidly. Fallang led Briner two to one and won all precincts except McLeod and Lower Stillwater. Cowles ran ahead of his ticket in the city by about 15 votes.
A Minneapolis Times interview lauds the North Western Line and its North Western Limited as premier in comfort and luxury. County returns show Republicans winning most tickets with narrow margins for clerk and attorney races, and mixed results for assessor and other races amid a low amendment turnout.
A Department of the Interior circular outlines free use timber rules. Eligibility favors settlers and nearby residents. corporations and large-scale users are excluded. Permits up to 20 dollars stumpage issued by forest supervisor. larger amounts require secretary approval. Permits valid up to six months, with strict cut limits and location checks, and all timber must be used only at the stated site with proper cleanup and cash sawing payments.
Advertisement seeks 2500 to 3000 sheep for wintering until April 10 at 50 cents per head. Promises ample hay and range, a first class camp, and a 97 percent survival guarantee in spring.
