Week ended May 9 receipts from farms 2 163 000 bushels vs 3 007 000 a year ago total stocks in elevators 96 000 000 bushels vs 34 000 000 a year ago flour produced 2 553 000 barrels vs 1 569 000 a year ago total exports of wheat and flour 245 000 000 bushels vs 113 000 000 a year prior apparent domestic wheat consumption last 10 months averaged 35 700 000 bushels monthly versus 39 000 000 previously.
Washington May 24 The railroad administration asks Congress to provide 1.2 billion dollars to finance railways through the year and cover government losses for 16 months ending May. The request includes 750 million previously barred by filibuster and 486 million for losses since January 1 1918.
Ohio moves to prohibition as the state switches to dry at midnight. About 5,600 saloons quit tonight to avoid a 305 license, leaving few open Monday. The largest Bridgeport bar will close Monday after selling about 20,000 drinks daily for years. Ohio becomes the nation’s biggest dry state, voted dry by 25,000 in November.

Harry G. Hawker and Lieut. Com. Mackenzie Grieve, who launched last Sunday from St Johns Newfoundland to fly across the Atlantic, were picked up at sea and landed in Scotland. They were taken to Thurso aboard the destroyer Revenge and are reported in good health. the Sopwith aircraft was not salvaged. They are due to reach London Tuesday evening.
James A. McGovern of Fargo was named manager of the North Dakota Mile and Elevator Association by the industrial commission at a special meeting. His duties involve handling farm products under the Sixteenth North Dakota assembly with broad powers, to be discussed at a conference with Governor Fra zier and State Treasurer Olson.
