First Annual Field Day Sets Outdoor Events Next Saturday
Big Timber Schools and county high schools plan a countywide field day at the race track on May 31. Events include dashes, jumps, shot put, tennis shoes, and prizes from local merchants. Open to all county pupils with a basketball game by high school girls and prizes for winners announced by sponsors.

Land Lands Leased In County Sale by State Agent
State Land Agent Thomas D. Long conducted a county sale or lease of state lands with strong turnout from stockmen. Of 45,000 acres offered, 24,955 acres were leased for five years at a total rental of 3002.25 dollars, including renewals and new lessees. Two small sales occurred at 10.75 and 13.75 dollars per acre. The permanent school fund will gain over 600 dollars annually for five years.

Memorial Day Observance With Parade And Exercises
For the first time the city observes Memorial Day with public exercises. A parade of militia G A R school children and citizens plus two U S cavalry troops led by the band will decorate graves at the cemetery and hold exercises at the armory. The line forms at 9 a m at the courthouse led by W A Clark marshal and the band. At the cemetery graves receive a volley then return to the hall for an address by Hon John T Swith and music by band and quartette. Mrs C A Gillette of McLeod will present Co C with a silk flag. All are invited to participate.

Maney reports Gugler shot at him near rim-rock
Martin Maney from a ranch told officers Robert Gugler fired three shots at him as he searched Gugler’s field for a stray horse. One shot tore the rim of Maney’s hat as he fled. Undersheriff Lyons proceeded to arrest Gugler.

To Inspect Co. D Captain Preston of Co. C M N G left Tuesday night for Red Lodge to inspect that militia. Major Duncan, the regular inspecting officer, visited Red Lodge last week but the company was not ready. Since all companies must be inspected by June for apportionment, Duncan assigned the duty to Captain Preston.

Horse accident and buggy mishap near Big Timber
Charley Hilton sustained a bad cut above the eye requiring stitches after a horse kicked while he refastened a disc harrow trace. Geo. Goslin, driving the team, was thrown when the buggy king pin broke and the vehicle collapsed. One horse bruised, Goslin scratched, and the team later tangled near Hellopeter’s.
