The program lists Mrs. Dorothy Fifield and Fred Taylor presenting songs including Anitra Dance I Like It Here and Onward We March Together. It covers class prophecies mottos and awards with the ceremony featuring conferring of diplomas, a benediction, and a recessional. Attendees include Raymie Jarrett Linda Yost Margaret Lavold and many others.
In Columbus last Friday two Big Timber sophomores Marvin Stephens and Alex Adams earned state berths in high jump while Freshman Rick Clark won a javelin trip to Missoula by throwing 139 feet. Coach Jim Graham noted Clark’s rapid progress and surprise standout.
David G. Rivenes, chairman of the state horseshoe pitching tournament committee, is pleased with plans for permanent pits at Lions Park for the state tourney on June 18 under Jaycees. Installations set for Saturday May 21 at 9:30 with frames built at Arie Petaja's, hauled to the park, and cemented in. Lighting will be supervised by John Jacobs.
A Cub Scout pack meeting and family picnic will be held Friday evening May 20 in the City park. Cubmaster Art Olsen says awards will be presented and games and entertainment provided. Picnic begins at 5 30 and attendees should bring their own dishes and silverware.
About 100 youngsters entered the Jaycee sponsored marble tournament held May 10 11 and 12. Trophies were awarded in four divisions with Edward Gust and Larry Mack in first and second grade, Russel Raisland and Monte Rudd in third and fourth grade, Jack Simmons and Leland Fessen den in fifth and sixth, and Frank Fessenden and Erin Grosfield in seventh and eighth.
Patrons praised fine performances at week concerts. Grade school band directed by Robert Woolley performed Friday night and the high school program under Blythe Browning and Woolley followed Tuesday evening. First chair awards went to a large list of grade school students. Browning and Woolley received gifts at the Tuesday night show.
Attendee records show Scofield Leonard of Broadus honored alongside Clyde McKee of Montana State College for devotion to livestock agriculture and community service. Leonard served nine terms in the Montana House after election in 1935 and later four terms in the Senate, including a 1947 speakership.
August C Pollman 65 died at the veterans hospital in Ft Harrison after a long illness. He was born in 1894 in Boscobel Wisconsin and lived in Harlowton Reed Point and Big Timber. He served in World War I and was a member of Trinity Lutheran church. He is survived by Irene Geneva Hanson his widow a son and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Lowry Chapel with interment at Mountain View.
Sheryl Gee was installed as worthy advisor of the Big Timber Assembly of Rainbow for Girls at a Sunday ceremony. Outgoing advisor Sherrill Bryan and multiple officers were named with Kathy McKenzie and Margaret Lavold providing music and remarks. a floral tribute to Sherrill Bryan followed.
A large number of local 4 H club members attended the showmanship contest Friday night at the Bozeman Livestock Show. Ellen Brau and others were noted among participants as the event highlighted youth involvement and competitive judging.
Mrs Otis Ueland and her husband visited Glendive for a weekend. While there she gathered agates in spare time and reported finding several nice specimens.

The Fist Congregational church observes children s day with an 11 o clock service led by church school students and a 1 o clock picnic dinner at City park. The program includes prayers hymns scripture memory and awards for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Jaycees offer a free car safety check at Kerm's Carter Service next to Almeda's cafe on Saturday May 21. Lights brakes and horn will be checked and a safety sticker issued. Car washes cost 150 and grease 100 with safety spacers 50. Bikes receive free Scotch lighting and a free pick up and delivery service.
Dry Creek students under Mrs. Becken traveled by train to Bozeman last Thursday. They breakfasted on the train, wore engineer caps from the conductor, visited the Bozeman field house and the McGill museum Indian room, and enjoyed a park picnic with mothers meeting them at the depot. Participants include Peggy Faw, Sandra Faw, Marian Whidden, Susan, Jean, Gary, Bobby, Kenneth Jones, Wayne Osterhout, Michael Clayton, and others.
From the Evangelical United Brethren annual conference at Harlem where Rev S. D. Lindley is reassigned to the Big Timber church. Changes involve Livingston and Billings churches as Rev Robert L. Dunn moves from Grace EUB Livingston to Billings and Rev Reuben Struts from First EUB Billings to Livingston. Ontario conference shifts noted to Kentucky duties.

William McLauchlan is President with Sheryl Gee as Secretary-Treasurer and Oddlaug Stene as Student Council Representative. Honor students listed include Barbara Beagle Gloria Boe Sheryl Gee William McLauchlan Jan Klindt Lorayne Plaggemeyer Helen Rein and Oddlaug Stone.
Glen Westervelt led boys with 172 while Sheryl Gee topped girls with 168 in the Big Timber Junior Rifle Club indoor tourney. Ed Webber and Steve Jarrett followed in the boys, Elizabeth Grosfield was runner up for the girls. prizes included engraved belts and pearl necklaces.
At Monday night's session the council appointed Clarence Petaja to replace the resigned MacLean Clark. The same meeting named Kenneth Moore as night patrolman to fill the vacancy left by Harold Esp who also resigned.
Andrea Rostad and Jane Ann Beck with instructor Mervin Wertz depart today for Missoula to compete in the state interscholastic meet after placing in the Billings speech contest. Jane Ann will enter humorous declamation and extemporaneous speaking.
At last Wednesday night's meeting the Big Timber Volunteer Fire Department elected officers. Bill Matthew named foreman and Steve Ollestad chosen secretary treasurer. Fire Chief Mac Clark and assistants Owen Moore and Wilbert Johnson, reelected last year for two-year terms, have one year remaining.
Margaret Kerr Irvine died Monday at 719 South Washington Street Dillon. She was 85 and frail for five years. Funeral Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Mountain View cemetery. Born Margaret Kerr Bryant in Scio Ohio on April 28 1875 she moved to Montana as a young woman living in Big Timber and later Butte and the Whitehall area. Survived by brother Orson Bryant of Three Forks and two grandchildren Robert and William Cottom Dillon.
Clem Stirn will head the Lions Club for the coming year following election at a recent meeting. Byron Manley retires as president. New officers include Harold McLauchlan first vice president Dr V Standish second vice president Virgil Gust secretary C F Ullman treasurer Russell Smith tail twister Walt Huffman and Dean Lowry directors Selmer Solberg and Byron Grosfield hold two year terms.
