Funeral services for Dr. M. W. Barr held at family home
Dr. M. W. Barr who died Wednesday evening last week of diabetes was honored in a Sunday afternoon Christian Science service read by A. C. Oakley of Billings. Pallbearers included Ernest R. Patterson Emory C. Jones Will Churchill W. A. Conwell Senator F. M. Lamp and Ted Kepler. Burial followed at Mountain View. Barr, born July 17 1864 in Waseca Minnesota, practiced dentistry fifty years before retiring in 1939 due to ill health. He moved to Montana and Big Timber thirty nine years ago and later married Emma Stubblefield. survived by son Harold and his mother in San Jose California. Also two sisters in law Mrs W Church Libby Montana and Mee Robert Wakelin Seattle Washington attended. Brothers and others mourned. Local friends praised him as a model citizen and skilled denture maker whose patients came from Bozeman Livingston and as far as Billings for affordable fit teeth.

Rural students gather for track and scholastic contests
About 200 rural pupils from Sweet Grass county traveled to the city Saturday for a rural track and scholastic meet attended by roughly 400 participants. Events included an oral spelling contest won by Inga Versland of Deer Creek, with Oliver Hammersmark of Melville placing second. Scholastic tests covered arithmetic language reading and writing. East Boulder won the cup for most scholastic points. Awards were presented by Principal H. C. Olson. lunch served by Mrs. Louise Shunk and home economics students.

Bloodhounds Track Lost Student From Butte to Frenchtown
Sheriff McLeod reported state prison bloodhounds found a fresh scent in a Frenchtown cabin on Charlies Joseph Lyden of Montana School of Mines who has been missing from Butte since Friday. The trail went cold on highway 10 as dogs moved westward with the missing man’s mind described as blank. Frenchtown lies about 150 miles west of Butte.

Auto Death Toll Near Forty in Montana
Troy Montana May 7 Montana's 1939 auto fatality toll stood at 38 today. George Makin and Courtland Bunyan both of Yakut Mont drowned when their car plunged into the Kootenai river west of Troy. Mrs Bud Garrison, daughter of Makin, escaped by swimming to shore after being injured. The steering device reportedly was defective.

Noted Railway Head Carl Gray Dies in Sleep
Carl R. Gray 71, former Union Pacific president and vice chairman, was found dead in bed at the Mayflower hotel in Washington. He retired after dinner Monday with his son Carl R. Gray Jr. and was in the city on national transportation matters. The elder Gray had served on Roosevelt era labor management efforts. A hotel physician attributed the death to a heart condition.
