The Montana arid land commission aims to settle a colony in Carbon County along Clarke's Fork with a canal to reclaim thousands of acres. Donald Bradford notes goals to employ settlers, grant water rights tied to acres filed, and begin construction June 1 with payments spread over years.
Carbon county road supervisor tested the Indiana reversible road machine on Billings avenue between the depot and the new courthouse. The machine graded and crowned the hard packed, boulder strewn stretch with excellent results despite rough conditions. The unit cost 2.90 and joins two Austin patent machines bought for 345 each now at Joliet to be used for road work around Joliet Rockvale and Gebo with a goal to finish by mid July.
Helena Independent reports Cook & Woldson secured a contract to extend the Montana railroad from Leadore toward Martinsdale 25 miles down the Musselshell River. Burlington interests discussed weaving the line toward Billings and the Pacific coast, with surveys and heavy grading already underway and a July 4 completion goal for the Martinsdale segment.
Carter's Monthly Magazine Chicago edited by Opie Read gains rapid public favor as a western literature staple. The May lead article surveys Weltmerism the new era in Magnetic Healing detailing 70000 treated cases and distant cures, praising Prof Weltmer and the Weltmer Institute Nevada Mo for research and cures.
J. W. Lynch of Dor, West Virginia, says a bottle of Cham berlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy cured his flux after a few doses. He recommends it to others suffering from the disease. The Budd Drug Co sells the remedy.
A selected lot of thoroughbred Herefords and Shorthorn bulls will be sold at Big Timber after May 8. E. O. Clark promotes the sale event with details to be announced.
