The Picket explains the new bounty law effective today. Pelts must have the upper jaw attached, skins presented within ninety days, and affidavits from two freeholders. Wolf bounty is five dollars per grown wolf, two dollars per coyote and pup wolf, with pups killed before November 1. Skins are burned after inspection and record keeping. A five mill tax on livestock funds bounty certificates. Fraud carries up to $1,000 fine or one year in jail.
The notice warns that any person who falsely makes, alters, forges, or counterfeits certificates or who falsely swears to any affidavits is guilty of perjury and upon conviction faces a prison term of one to ten years.
Postmaster General Charles Emery Smith spoke at the Grant birthday events in Chicago, saying the United States does not need alliances political commercial or military with any nation.
