The Huidekoper match begins Sunday at 1 PM at the indoor range under the 1951 NRA smallbore rifle rules. Eligible participants include Big Timber Rifle and Pistol Club members across adult junior girls Boy Scout old timer and Scouts classes with 12 matches detailing prone sitting kneeling and standing positions and varying shot counts.
Roy K. Snyder history and government teacher at the high school spoke to the American Legion Auxiliary on U S foreign policy. He described two armed camps led by the Soviet bloc and the United States and free nations, noting postwar territorial gains and U S defense costs. He outlined the Marshall plan point four program and the North Atlantic pact and recalled wartime experiences.
Funeral services were held for Glenos Orville Cox at the Church of God. Cox died March 7 at his home in Harlowton from a personal safety related bullet wound. Interment was at Mountain View. Survivors include his wife Shirley, son Glen Roy, his mother, six brothers, three sisters, and other relatives. Public records note his 1946 marine corps service with duty in Korea.
Montana fish and game fieldman Jack Lentfer reports 74 of the original twenty-one mountain goats counted so far in the Crazy Mountains. Two thirds of the goats habitat has been surveyed this season with weather delaying completion. Officials expect well over 100 goats to be found. goats began from ten in 1941 and eleven more in 1943 near Deep Creek Chateau. Lentfer notes goats winter well at high altitudes and predators like eagles pose a risk. Pilot Jim Stradley assists in the survey.
The Melville Longhorns lost 61 to 56 at White Sulphur Springs in the season finale. Norris Johnson led scoring with 29 points, with Ed Deegan Carl Anderson Morris Tronrud Sigurd Lavold Victor Tronrud and Doug Alexander also scoring and traveling.
Rev A Erickson argues that America must return to God to withstand atomic age fears. He cites Korea era threats, leaders urging prayer and daily family devotions, and a call to renew faith in the founding religious heritage to preserve democracy.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Cecelia Olseth Wordal 77 who died after a long illness. Rev. E E Tollefson officiated at the Lutheran church. She was born in Norway October 17 1874 and lived in Montana and Minnesota before settling in St James. Survived by son Harry Wordal of Big Timber with other family members. Burial at Mountain View.
Coas wed Sell departed this morning to visit his father Herman aged to in Tacoma. He was accompanied by Dorman Kel logg who visited his wife Mrs Hoy Jom son in Seattle.
The J. C. Mitchell Construction Co. of Billings won the bid to build a new Big Timber grade school with plans for nine classrooms and an admin office. Bids ranged from 149 653 to 181 700 with most in the 160s and 170s. Construction begins soon with excavation underway and completion aimed for next fall or winter, likely after school starts.
At the Lutheran Brother Scout banquet on March 8, awards were given to Richard Brown Kenneth Collenborne and David True for Tenderfoot pins. Second class pins went to Carl Patterson Jack Dwyer and Fred Olness. Merit badges and year pins were awarded to numerous Scouts and Cub entries with about 110 attendees.
Raleigh Woods Sr., 63, rancher north of Reed Point, died Friday at Columbus hospital after a week’s illness. Funeral service was held Monday at the Columbus funeral chapel with Rev. John Douglas. burial at Mountain View, Big Timber. Surviving: widow Louise Jelle. five sons Raleigh Jr., William A., Cleo, Harry, Calvin. three daughters Burt on, Jelle, Cantrell. brother James Woods. sister Mrs. Charles Hicks.
Columbus captured the sixth annual Lions invitational grade school basketball tournament with a 29 to 27 overtime win over Three Forks. Lofing led Columbus with 36 points in the tourney while Gates added key early scoring and Lofing sealed the OT with free throws. Dillon beat Absarokee 22 to 18 for third, as Dillon’s Giles and Theil helped rally from an 8-3 start to capture the win.
The Montana State College concert Chorus directed by Conrad Sandvig will give a 9 45 a m concert at the new high school gym in Big Timber on Monday. About 60 voices perform a mixed program marking Big Timber as a first stop on its state tour. A novelty orchestra from the national School Assemblies performs at 9 o’clock before the chorus.
Wilma Wilson 80 a Clark school teacher for 45 years and longtime county resident died after a brief illness at Park hospital in Livingston She was born Wilhelmina Kaiser in Chicago Il on August 1 1871 and educated at Atwood Wilmington and the University of Michigan She married John Wilson on July 28 1919 in Townsend Survivors include her husband three nieces one nephew and two cousins Funeral plans not yet announced.
Mr and Mrs Olaf Rostad of Len nep attended funeral services for E H Ellingson and returned home Saturday.
Army auditor William J. Cassidy testified that overcharges of about 450000 and extra costs of 50000 occurred in a 300 million French Morocco construction program. He named Lt. Col. Leonard L. Haseman and Atlas Constructors as implicated, citing payroll abuse and inflated bids.
