Legion Plans To Erect Memorial Building At Dugout
The local American Legion post voted at its Friday meeting to build a 60 by 90 foot cinder block memorial home with a dance hall recreation room kitchen banquet hall and meeting room. Carl Busse prepared plans and 14 new members joined bringing total to 144. The post plans its 21st annual St Patrick’s dance March 16 at Masonic hall to fund the project. Luncheon followed.

Dairy-Type Cattle Must Be Bangs Tested Before Sale
A state livestock sanitary board letter to ranchers in Sweet Grass county urges Bangs disease tests for dairy type cattle six months or older before public saleyard sales or any auction. Tests are free when grouped or facilities allow, with fifteen days notice for out of saleyard auctions to apply. The rule, effective April 1, 1946, aims to prevent spread of the disease.

Viers Serves as Supply Sergeant on Leyte
Staff Sergeant Lyal D. Viers, son of Mr and Mrs L L Viers of Big Timber Montana, serves as supply sergeant with the 28th replacement depot on Leyte in the Philippine Islands. He has served overseas since January 1945 and is entitled to wear the Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon with bronze star, Philippine liberation ribbon, good conduct ribbon and victory medal. He is a former student at Northeast High School in Kansas City.

County Red Cross Drive Opens This Week in Sweet Grass
The 1946 Red Cross fund drive begins this week in Sweet Grass County with R A Bray as drive chairman. It runs until March 30 and has a county quota of 2050 dollars. Of the funds, 33.2 percent goes to national and international bodies and 66.8 percent stays with the local chapter. Last year the local retention was 17 percent and the national quota stood at 100 million dollars, down from 200 million last year.

The Sweet Grass County Wool Pool has consigned about 33,000 fleeces to Harvey Cort of Hallowell with Jones and Donald of Boston handling the sale. Payments total about $150 per fleece already made, roughly $50,000, with further payout planned to reach about 75 percent or 35 cents per pound before final appraisal. There is no interest on advance payments.

Petaja Takes Over Creamery in Big Timber
Clarence Petaja of Roundup has taken over management of the Sweet Grass County creamery in Big Timber, purchasing it from I. V. Trower. Petaja brings creamery experience from Roundup and Seattle, and has just completed four years in the U. S. Navy. He will operate the plant similar to the previous 30 years. Clarence Fostvedt remains buttermaker, and Mrs. Petaja with their son Charles will join him in Big Timber this week.
