Mr and Mrs Mervin Sell traveled to Livingston Friday to attend funeral services for Mrs Dan Miles who died the previous Wednesday. The body was sent to Great Falls for cremation. Her husband owns A W Miles Co in Big Timber and is managed by Sell.
The Sweet Grass county high school mixed chorus presents the operetta Send for Aphais on Wednesday March 10 in the high school auditorium. Admission is 50c and 25c. Cast includes Mrs Coop Lois Anderson Mr Larkspur Lawrence Furstenberg Aphais Bugs portrayed by the bug man Jack Haas and dancers and singers listed in the program.

A contract to D M Manning of Billings covers 50 miles of REA lines in Sweet Grass county for Park Electric Cooperative. Lines run from Big Timber to Springdale and along Big Timber creek to Melville. Work starts immediately and must finish in 45 days. 75 percent wiring required before energizing. No new assessments due to a deficiency allotment.
Plans are underway for the second annual invitational grade school basketball tournament to be held Friday and Saturday March 12 and 13. Eight teams participate Belgrade Three Forks Gardiner Wilsall Reed Point Rapelje Columbus and Big Timber with five sessions and a championship on Saturday. Awards for first second and third place. Lions club trophies. Hank Klindt asks residents to host visiting players.
The Future Homemakers of America held a social gathering in the high school club room on Monday. The program featured group games and refreshments of peaches and cookies served by the committee.
The grade school team posted a 23 18 victory over Harlowton with Big Timber leading the way and Don Voges Jim McCauley scoring for the locals. Earlier Rapelje upset them 19 16 in overtime as Milton Wordal hit the winning basket. The sixth graders and freshmen provided a preliminary and upcoming rematch at Harlowton looms.
Miss Martha Patten Brumfield married William Downs in a double ring ceremony at the Brumfield home in Reed Point. The event featured family attendants, a reception, and plans for a honeymoon before returning to Helena to reside.
Westre of Sweet Grass County High School and Lentfer of Park High School earned Elks scholarships announced by The Livingston Enterprise. Each will receive 30 dollars locally and advance to the state contest. state awards total 300 dollars with national prizes up to 1000 dollars.
The Community Co op Canning association at the courthouse elected two new directors Mrs. Roy Vaughn and O A Sippel. Sippel became president and Vaughn the vice president with Scott Hoskinson treasurer and F B Peterson secretary. Members must deposit 10 to order cans for availability at canning time and new members may join this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Churchill returned Tuesday from a months long trip to Arizona and the west coast. They visited the J J Lacklens in Long Beach and attended the Pasadena rose festival. Much of the vacation was in Mesa near Phoenix where they met many vacationing Big Timber residents amid concerns about Phoenix's water supply and declining ground water levels. Also listed are Mrs Sophia Guthrie and several Reed Point residents.

Funeral services for Oliver Perry Jasper 68 of Bozeman were held at St. Josephs Catholic church after a long illness. Born in Somerset Kentucky in 1879 he lived in the area 55 years and is survived by a widow a sister a brother a niece and three nephews. The service featured St Josephs choir with Fr P C Wolframski officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were listed as Bozeman area residents and Scouts events followed later in the day at a local affair.
The Stillwater Sweet Grass National Farm Loan Association will hold its annual meeting Friday March 5 at Fraternity hall Big Timber with a noon dinner served by the Pythian Sisters. Leif Anderson president will preside and introduce speakers including C C Upton from the Federal Land Bank of Spokane. A brief business session will report on progress and elect two directors. Terms of Lewin Kober Park City and Carl Mysse Reed Point expire this year and hold over directors are Leif Anderson Melville H Ben Tetlie Big Timber Gerhard Woltermann Columbus and Alex Ross Absarokee.
Funeral services for Jerome Lee Pemberton 85 were held at the Lowry chapel with Rev H B Tool officiating. Music by Shirley Huyser and Mer vin Sell. Pallbearers Arthur Michels Robert Brownlee Lee Smoot Al McComb Harry Mic Comb Charles Nicholson. Burial in Mountain View. Born Louisville Kentucky August 3 1863. Lived in Boulder area and at Christensen Home. Survived by two sisters J M Downing Higginsville Missouri and an invalid sister in Phoenix Arizona.
Sweet Grass county's Red Cross quota is 712 dollars announced this week by Chairman P N Bennett. Fund solicitation includes W K Amery as committee chairman and district captains for west and east sides with numerous local volunteers. Out of town payments may be made at Springdale, McLeod, Melville stores, Allmans of Melville, Eva Hausserman, Bridger Creek, or the J A Lowry Co office.
Take Game Honors Mervin Sell Mrs F B Peterson Sayre Nevin Mrs Theo Olson and Mrs Margaret Bruffey were the prize winners at the Pythian Sisters couple party held Thursday evening in Fraternity hall. Mr Sell and Mrs Peterson were high at pinochle, Mr Nevin and Mrs Olson at bridge, and Mrs Bruffey took cootie honors. Refreshments were served by Lela Viers Helene Hoskinson Mary Bryan Agnes Refsland Grace Hoem and Myrtle Sell.
The Sheepherders nearly clinched the district title at Bozeman before Ed Gunderson tore an ankle. They stunned White Sulphur Springs 44 37 as Gunderson led with 15 points while Wagner added 11 and Boyd 10.
All Sweet Grass county ranchers and farmers are urged to attend the AAA meeting Tuesday March 9 at 1 PM in the courthouse. R J McKenna Montana PMA chairman will discuss practices and Alfred Smith fieldman will assist with the discussion and explain individual problems.
