Sweet Grass County enters national soil conservation awards
The Sweet Grass county soil conservation district has joined the national awards program sponsored by Goodyear. District Chairman Elmer Arneson announced that the county group will compete against other districts in Montana for the outstanding district period May 1, 1957 to April 30, 1958. Non partisan judging committees from Montana’s conservation leaders will decide the state winner.

Services Held For Grant Cudney
Funeral services were held in Ennis for 18 year old Grant Cudney son of Mr and Mrs Roy Cudney. He died of a heart attack while on a fishing trip to Hidden Lake with his father and uncle Irvin Myers. Burial was in Ennis cemetery with classmates as pallbearers. Grant born Grey Cliff in May 1939 moved to Ennis in 1949 and graduated from Ennis high school this spring. Survivors include his parents a sister Katherine and grandparents Mr and Mrs Frank Cudney of Grey Cliff.

Mysse Enjoys Trip Through Deep South
Louis Mysse travels through the United States on a job for two weeks in Attalla Alabama and a week in Butler and Johnstown Pennsylvania while wiring a steel separator. He recalls a Memorial Day drive through the Cumberland mountains from Knoxville through Somerset Kentucky. He plans to return to Johnstown soon and spend most of the summer in Pennsylvania with an installation gang for steel mills.

Sky Flight Inc headed by Walt Huffman received a telegram indicating the U S Department of Agriculture awarded a contract to spray 2440 acres of Park county range land across the Mission Hoff man and Murphy ranches. The bid totaled 1698 80 dollars at about 70 cents per acre to test for chemical residues in livestock.

Helena reports Montana lawmakers pass an amendment restricting fireworks sales. Firecrackers over two inches long and one quarter inch in diameter are banned, along with blank cartridges toy cannons explosive balloons torpedoes daggo bombs sparklers and similar devices or any fireworks with explosive or inflammable compounds.

The Jaycee float won first in the rodeo parade with the Moose second Wool growers third and the Legion Auxiliaries fourth. Prizes ranged from 30 to 15 dollars. Eyeland Plumbing Midsness Agency and Starr Motors won 5 dollar awards. John Hooper Art Nygaard Mrs Alfred Ostrum Orville Wulff Robert Ray Teddy Huffman earned Wrangler and overall honors. Judges included O J Paulson and several others. Parade directed by Moose lodge with Tope Strobel as chairman and broad merchant support praised.

Funeral services for Frank J. Boyd 91 were held at the Lowry Chapel with Rev. Paul Sea officiating. Music by Mrs. Vernie Hathaway and Mrs. Frank Chase accompanied. Pallbearers were Anshelm Olin Harry Mack John Viets Charles Bouse Oswald Nevin and Sam Hetland. He died at Community hospital from infirmities of age and heart trouble. Born November 6 1866 near Worcester Massachusetts he came west to Wyoming at age 9. He married Halycon Blanche Phillips in 1890 and moved to Sweet Grass county in 1911. Survivors include four sons Ray Boyd William Bert and Arthur Boyd, one daughter Mrs James Martin, 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter.

Deer Strike Ends Calm For Amos Davidson
Amos Davidson reports he opened the deer season early this year. On Monday while traveling on highway 10 near the Erik Hammersmark ranch his car struck a deer. The deer was killed outright. Davidson escaped injury and the car had very little damage.
