Bloodshed in Butte as miners battle deputies
In Butte on June 23 a mob of insurgent miners attacked the Western Federation of Miners hall with dynamite as about a hundred deputy sheriffs faced them from surrounding rooftops. A bystander was killed and several others were wounded as shots were fired, with leaders Moyer and Riley escaping via a rear entrance. Ernest Noy was killed. J H Bruno gravely injured.
