Hard Montana Winter Strands Freight Train At Grey Cliff

In the brutal 1886 87 winter engines using Timberline coal faced corrosion from poor water and coal. Freight cars were cut at Grey Cliff to ease the load on small engines. A stalled train near the Boulder river during a blizzard prompted Adair Ainslie to call for snow plows and a special relief train from St Paul.
