Harlowton’s 29th Birthday Marks Town’s Early Founding
The June 1900 settlement era of Harlowton is recalled as the town celebrates 29 years. Early settlers arrived on June 10 with log cabins near the Montana Flour Mills site. A land sale drew about 200 people including cow-punchers and homesteaders. The first businesses opened amid nascent growth, with Hale's restaurant and a tent saloon, followed by the Melville Mercantile Co. A railway arrival spurred growth and stage lines connected to Lewistown, while lumber, foodstuffs, and supplies were hauled overland before motor cars.
