Forsyth Killer Convicted of Second Degree Murder
Forsyth, June 1 verdict finds Arthur Thomas Hesterly guilty of second degree murder for killing Peter Jakobi and Matilda Latsch. Jury recommended 10 to 20 years in prison after 40 hours of deliberation. The defense pleaded insanity and jurors previously reported a disagreement before reaching verdict.

Bozeman on May 28 reports Bert Lay 44, city employee, died Friday at 6 20 a m by shooting himself with an automatic shotgun. Despondence over his wife’s ill health and troubles given as cause. Survived by widow Anna Paulson Lay, mother Mrs Jennie Lay, children Herbert Everett Frances, two brothers Miles Lay and Fred Lay, and sister Mrs Margaret Franks.

Lee Dennis declines Great Falls land office post
Helena May 28. Lee Dennis, longtime clerk of the state board of examiners and former Montana railroad commissioner, refused appointment as register of the United States land office at Great Falls. Walter Bennett resigns effective May 31. Dennis had been urged by Congressman Scott Leavitt but asked that his name be withdrawn and stated he would not accept the post.

Boulder Lad Drowns In Boulder River Tragedy
Ray Jess Seyphers aged three and a half drowns Monday in the Boulder river near Big Timber after disappearing from his ranch home. Footprints show he walked from house to the river about 50 feet. His body was found by An drew Larson four hours later opposite Big Timber and prepared for burial. Services were held at the Congregational church with interment in Mountain View.

Livingston May 28 A large tract in Yankee Jim canyon north of Gardiner was added to the Absaroka and Gallatin forests by act of congress. About 66 sections to national forests plus 21 sections east of Yellowstone river to Absaroka and 43 sections west to Gallatin, with nearly two sections to Yellowstone park as an antelope range. The plan includes private land exchanges for forest service lands to create winter range for elk. With 40 000 acres secured it aims to protect the elk herd during severe winters.
